In defence of Jamie Cureton

Recommended Posts

A lot has been said about Jamie Cureton not being good enough for us, I thought he was our most dangerous striker today and looked a lot more likely to stick the ball in the net than Evans. He might not be as naturally able as Robert Earnshaw but I ask that you all look back to start of the season to see why he may not have the confidence that all strikers need. After scoring two goals in one game at the start of the season he was slated by Peter Grant and, I believe, dropped from the starting line up. From then on, after being left out and having nothing to feed on in games that he played except long and high balls from equally unconfident players, he was obviously not enjoying his football and getting less service then he was at Colchester.

Since Roeder came in he has looked more lively and more confident, like every player in our squad, and is beginning to look like the dangerous player we know he can be. So many Norwich fans expect miracles but you need to appreciate that it is going to take time. Please remember that Huckerby did not score a goal for us this season until Roeder came in and that Cureton is easily the most naturally gifted goalscorer that we have.

I think that Roeder is doing a brilliant job and will get the best out of Cureton in the second half of the season, the simple fact is that he has had to and is still having to, make chances for himself. Even Michael Owen would struggle to score goals in the Norwich team under Grant. Now that we seem to have Huckerby back playing somewhere near to his best I am sure that Cureton will benefit from some sort of creativity from Midfield. Ched Evans has capitalised on the creativity of Huckerby and I am sure that Cureton will too.

To criticise Cureton for his performance today despite looking our most dangerous player (until the introduction of Hucks) is ridiculous and if you think that the Colchester defender would have scored an own goal without being under pressure from Cureton then you are an idiot. He has pretty much salvaged a point from that game, anybody that says otherwise should be watching another sport.

Jamie cureton looked dangerous tonight. GHe even showed some turns of pace which didn''t think he poccessed!

He has lived on scraps this year that strikers must better than him would of struggled with.

Yes agreed that could of done much better but - yet again another case of fans being totally unrealistic!

Best one I heard last season was the guy who said that Rob Earnshaw misses to many chance. He said that to me in January when Earnie had just scored about 17 goals in half a season. Yes he missed chances but so does every striker and if you can''t be satisfied with that return then you never will!

We always used to mock Wolves fans for their high expectations but haven''t we become the same in the last 3-4 years?

Sorry, but he''s rubbish.  Look at the big picture.  We traded down on Ashton by selling and replacing him with Earnshaw, and we traded down on Earnshaw by selling and replacing him with Cureton.  I''m sure in the summer we''ll sell Cureton and buy someone who has a great goalscoring record in the Blue Square Premier league, and on it goes.

We traded down on the playing staff........But have quality ''nosh parlours'' and luvverly offices and corporate boxes - instead of burger sheds and portakabins.....And all the profits made from those, are pumped back into the club coffers.....somewhere......apparently.

(I painted that big picture all by myself).[Y]
