Glenn Roeder savoured a "perfect day" after watching Norwich end a dismal run of 11 matches without a win by beating Coventry 2-0 at Carrow Road.

The Canaries'' slump had left them five points adrift at the bottom of the Championship but goals from Luke Chadwick and Jamie Cureton in either half secured a morale-boosting first league win since September 15.

"This means everything", said Roeder. "I said before the game that it didn''t matter how we played as long as we took the three points.

"Well, we have won by playing some excellent football and as far as I''m concerned it has been a perfect day.

"We had got into the habit of not winning games and that simply had to change. Now we have done that hopefully we can move on from here.

"I''ve just come out of the dressing room and it is a very happy place. Nobody seems to want to leave, which is excellent. It just shows how much this win means to everyone at the club."

On loan Newcastle winger Matty Pattison had a hand in both goals, crossing for Chadwick to convert on 33 minutes and then providing the telling pass for Cureton to make the game safe 13 minutes from the end.

Roeder was delighted with his debut but did not want to single anyone out.

"I am pleased with all the players, everyone played their part today", he said.

"We passed the ball really well and that''s exactly what I want to see from my team. If Norwich were a long-ball team you wouldn''t have seen me here in the first place.

"I was very pleased with Matty and not surprised. I saw a lot of him when I was with the academy at Newcastle, and also when I was manager, so I know what the boy can do. He''s got a lot of quality about him and we''re delighted to have him on loan.

"I was also pleased to see him come through the 90 minutes, because it can''t have been easy having played just reserve team football this season.

"Everyone did well, I could go on and on about all of them."

Absolute bliss!

The more I see/read of this man the more I like him. OK, he may look like Roland Rat''s less fortunate brother, but his attitude, intelligence & passion belie his appearance. That was probably the most interesting & perceptive post match reaction I''ve ever seen from a football manager; I particularly liked his appreciation of the effect of the result on players families as well as the fans.

Early days as yet, of course, but if it does all go tits up I don''t think it will be because of a bad manager. There will come a time when the performances are still good but the results aren''t - if he can keep their heads up then, that''ll be the real test.

To me too Bly, in fact I can honestly say hearing Glenn''s interview albeit not until yesterday (thanks to the powers of the internet) was just the icing on the cake!

For me the crucial words were those about passing and NOT being a long ball team. In fact he went on to say we didn''t have the players to be a long ball team. HE is a passing man (and has the history to prove it). Thank you Glenn for taking the chance on our club and we hope you are stay here for many a year - a great start - and with interviews like that we can only hope to see our great club return to its roots in the not too distant future with some more astute signings and with a credible coaching team installed at Colney.

I''m in full agreement with you here BBB, every time I hear him speak I become more confident that we have a great manager on board - it feels like we have an adult in charge of the club again. Intelligent, reasoning and thoughtful - and he also seems to have respect and contacts within the game. As you say, bliss!

Roeder could be the guy who re-unites the whole club in the same way as Worthy did before it all went so wrong. It''s early days but Saturday was a good sign of things to come and it wasn''t just the result. If we can scrap our way off the bottom by January, a couple of ambitious signings in the transfer window could well make for a very interesting and enjoyable second half of the season.

All we have to hope now we are going away from long -ball and panic football is that the less intelligent amongst our crowd  can relax and enjoy what we saw on Saturday, patience.  So mnay times you hear someone shouting ''forward'' every time we do a sideways pass.  Watching the back four happy to build slowly was a joy.

When you signed Roeder, I wrote on here a few weeks back, that whatever happened with your team, he would get you playing a passing game, he knows no other way. The death of the long ball game at Carrow road, rejoice.

Completely correct HH/A! Way too early to judge whether he can pull us out of the shit but at least we know he''ll try to play us out of it and not resort to the panicky long-ball sh*te we''ve become used to. Hooray!
