Rupethebear 0 Posted November 10, 2007 Everybody is blaming the board for selling the best players but we have always sold the crown jewells. The diference is that we used to breed em and then sell em, (Sutton, Bellamy Fox etc etc) now we just buy and sell em (Ashton, Earnshaw etc etc). The trouble is there is no margin in selling players who have already a huge assett on the books and so the returns are little and we have spent this on poorer quality (Murray & Brown) whereas we used to buy decent players (Townsend & Fleck etc) based on the huge profits made.Everybody who comes here says how wonderful are facilities are are Colney and Carrow Road but the trouble is we haven''t produced any new talent through our ranks for years and Green is really the only home grown player who has been sold for a decent fee in years. Forget your board demos Smudger (that is really going to help us to sign some loan players) and stop blaming Delia and all as the real reason we have failed over the last 3 years is simple, our youth system is not working, there is no new talent coming through to bolster both the team and the bank balance, unless we start raising our own stars we will never return to the Premier league let alone the Championship.City till I die.. Arthur Whittle 0 Posted November 10, 2007 No theres a bit of difference. When Chase was selling off players there was very little money Tv wise, now sky etc clubs have a staedy income. Explain the premiership and premiership parachute money dissapering because we didnt have that in chases day. its not just the youth set up but i do agree with you to an extent. But under Chase our youth system was 2nd to none so ask yourself why it has changed? Because the club no longer invests in the playing side of the club, they are more concerned with restaurants and hotels.

Rupethebear 0 Posted November 10, 2007 Quite agree there is far more money from TV and parachute payments but this is all swallowed up in wages so there is no net benefit. Mind you our weekly wage bill should be rock bottom now we are not paying any win or positional bonuses!! Again no point in throwing huge amounts of money in transfer fees in Jan as most players would jump ship if we went down just like the foreign imports from the premier league days. We have to invest in the youth system and start turning out players again.

I quite agree. Whaetever the increase in TV money, this is just swallowed in ever increasing payer wages. Apart from Shackel, who else from the acadamy has made an impact? I just hope Roeder can organise the club from top to bottom, because that is what is needed. £1 million was used to set the acadamy up when we had no money to spare, and it has been a waste of money, complete waste of money. A real inquiry needs to be set up to find out why. If a player is not good enough, Ryan Jervis?, then he should be shown the door. Or not offered a contact. To buy players in is far more expensive than to develop your own. Simple maths. Either past managers were too scared to play youth, or they were not good enough. One thing is for certain, it needs sorting out, and soon. For the past decade we have just been throwing money away as far as the acadamy is concerned, and that is truly criminal.
