Anyone remember?

Re Lee Clark. I''m curious. What did it say?

''after 74 appearances, his career on Wearside came to an end after he wore a derogatory T-shirt at the 1999 FA Cup final.''

Think it was one of those classy ''one fan wearing a Norwich shirt weeing on another fan wearing a binner one'', etc etc but obviously Newcastle/Sunderland shirts! How to make yourself popular!!!

Anyone else remember that we were linked with him the season we got relegated (when he was struggling to get in the Newcastle side)? Would''ve been a good signing as our midfield was looking distinctly ropey at that point.

Wonder if he can still play - he''d probably be better than most of our current central midfielders!

I certainly do remember about a strong rumour linking Clark with us in the mid-90s - part of the rumour was that the move was all but sorted but Chase refused to match his salary and he pulled out; no idea how true that was but perhaps we''ll find out one day now that he''s finally here, 10+ years later!

According to Wiki, the story about the 99 Cup Final was that he was photographed wearing a t-shirt with the words “Sad Mackem B******s” on it (but without the *s)….not particularly controversial for your average Newcastle fan, but he was a current Sunderland player which put a completely different slant on it, and he never played for them again.
