"Closing in" on an appointment

Recommended Posts

Below is a statement from Neil Doncaster on Sky Sports website. Who will it be??

"We are closing in on an appointment," said chief executive Neil Doncaster. "We are now 16 days following Peter''s departure and we are certainly closing in and we hope to be able to announce a new appointment in the near future.

If its Parkinson i will be disgusted that they took so long to appoint a manager whos track record at this level was to take Hull city to the bottom of the league.

At the Diss meeting Roger Munby is quoted as saying “We are looking for the best man possible and that man might not be immediately available to us.”  Reading between these lines that seems to count out Martin Allen, John Gregory and any other free agent at the moment, and quite possibly Jewell too depending on the exact circumstances of his reported "holiday".

It leaves open the prospect of Parkinson, Grayson,Tilson, Pulis, Littbarski, Bruce plus any others that haven''t even been mentioned so far, including Dave Penney who for some reason doesn''t seem to have featured this time round - maybe the board interviewed him last time and for some reason he didn''t tick some of the boxes, but I really cannot see that you can fault his record. Bruce might be an intriguing one, Bolton wanted a man in quickly, Bruce has to talk to the new owners this weekend, perhaps that''s with Norwich''s offer in his hand. This time next week - who knows!

surely an ''official'' approach would have to have been made to interview anyone in contract, these are normally all over the media if a club receives one???!???
