I know, lets get a replacement for the best defender we have - genius!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/7028218.stmThe guy''s a right back. What the hell do we need a right back for? Otsemobor is the only decent defender in our back four. Ok, cover might be nice but it''s a luxury we can ill afford when we haven''t got a fit CB at the club. This centre back issue has hung over Grant from the very start - to begin with we thought he''d sort it, but as time has gone on, he''s done nothing - it''ll be the end of him at this rate.

It does state that he can play Centre back? I am not convinced by Ostembor great speed but a lot of the goals seem to come from his area?Agreed we do need one, I was gutted unlike most when Hughes left, I thought he played well there and should of won a few MOM awards there!!!

You surely can''t still believe everything will be ok if we replace Doherty.

Come on Nutty, don''t start that, you mentioned Doherty, not me! My point is simple - if you could bring in one player to ease our woes, what position would it be in? A creative CM perhaps given the injuries to both Fotheringham and Smith? Or the fact that Smith may go back to Chelsea in December. A centre back given that we''ve not got one single fully fit one at our disposal? A left back since Drury can''t seem to find his form consistently and Lappin is not a good fill in there. But a right back? Otsemobor is quality, Russell can cover there, Jarvis Jnr can too. We need a specialist CB, not a RB who can cover, or a forward who can cover. Before Murray, we only had two for god''s sake, and no-one seems exactly clear what Murray''s favoured position is. I''m hopeful it will be turn out to be CB but Grant hasn''t tried very hard to make him a CB until he was forced to do so. We must be the only professional set-up in the land with only 2 specialist centre backs - i''m not about to start again about whether they are any good or not. It''s the most absurd situation i can ever remember at the club in 23 years of following it, and it is only down to one person.

A1 - Centrebacks at the club Doherty, Dublin, Shackell, Murray, Spillane. It''s not as short as the majority seem to believe. I would take improvement over any of them but I have seen every game this season apart from Preston away and not once have I felt we dropped points because of our defence. I have come away from every game feeling we dropped points because we didn''t create enough chances. If you analyse every game someone makes a mistake and the other team score, its the same at all levels of football. Even the very best defenders make mistakes. I posted on here after 4 games that our goals against column was good enough to get us promoted, it still is now. We have only conceded 10 goals in 9 games, check the table, Watford have conceded 11. However, our goals scored column and our ability to create chances is only good enough for relegation, 5 goals in 9 games is pathetic. Look at Southampton, theres a side with defensive problems. They have scored 16 goals but their goal difference is the same as ours! So yes, I would say our priority would be a creative player in the midfield and if we only have enough budget for one top quality loan player then wasting it on another centreback would be criminal.

It''s not just me that thinks Doherty has been our best defender this season so surely what you are advocating is exactly what''s in the title of your thread.

I think we''re more or less in agreement Nutty. I have an issue with our lack of a leader and organiser in the back line but either way, a CM or a CB, we don''t need a right full back, agreed!?  That''s what i''m saying in the thread title, albeit a little facetiously and incoherently! Even if he ''can'' play CB as some are saying, he''s not the kind of CB we need and will add little to what we already have at RB or CB, which i''m sure you''ll agree on also.

I agree we could do with a new CB. However, a quick look at the league shows we have the 6th best defence in the league! Had to look twice as didn''t believe it at first. Makes you wonder where we would be if the forwards had actually put a few more goals in.
