Just how well is this club run

Recommended Posts

Apologies if other posts cover this subject, but seeing smug Doncaster on TV this am led me to question how competent the club is run.

Players salaries seemingly at a level we cannot afford, players of increasingly poorer quality, results getting worse by the week, a relegation threatened season looming.  On the playing front not particularly promising.

Why no money this from a season in the premiership, two seasons of parachute payments and the best crowd figures in the division, players sold for a profit and apparent income from catering, hotel etc.  And the sale of Chase''s property investments.

Why have we been paying players too much doesn''t Doncaster and the bean counters have some say on salaries offered to our posses of underachievers.

To the outsider it looks poor business, no way to run a football club.  Delia won''t sell to a foreign investor even if we could find one, the future of our club is pretty grim on and off the pitch.

Thank god I missed that piece of TV.

It''s not only players wages which are high. Check out CE''s wages as well.

Money wasted, squandered, whatever, it all adds up to what happened on the pitch. In the end that''s what we get points for.

The moment the board start to realise this and put their main perspectives into achieving that the better. Sure we need additional income, but not at the expense of the team. Surely they should have learnt from the previous chairman''s last sorry days in charge. It appears not.

Of course players demand the market rate - shame some of them are not on performance related pay, but as of last season, most of them will still be in the team whatever their input as we don''t have a big enough squad to change things around.

Delia in the end won''t have much choice to sell out, not if she ever expects a return on her investment.

Please, please don`t fall for the "we`re hamstrung by player wages" spin. As a percentage of turnover our player wages in 05/06 were 36% (£9million out of £24.7million), in 06/07 they were 31% (£7.4million out of £24million).

The average in our league is 72% of turnover spent on player wages. We pay way below average on player wages.
