BCanary 0 Posted September 20, 2007 Southampton manager George Burley has confirmed the club''s interest in Cameroon defender Lucien Mettomo. The 30-year-old stopper has been training with the Saints over the past week after being released by Swiss side Lucerne. And Burley appears keen to bring in the former Manchester City man as cover for the injured Claus Lundekvam and Darren Powell.Speaking in the Southern Daily Echo, Burley said: "He had atrial with us and we are looking to bring him in on a short-term basis."He is an experienced centre half and with Claus having an operation and Darren Powell out it''s something we''ve been lacking."Fitness issuesIt had been reported that several other Championship clubs had showninterest in Mettomo, only to turn him down over concerns over hisfitness. However, Burley does not feel that this is a major problem. "Maybe he''s not fully fit but that will come and we are trying to get something sorted out."
