lucky green trainers 0 Posted August 27, 2007 if memory serves, we lined up in the carling cup away to the cobblers 4 years ago with a team of boys - afterwards worthy hinted later he''d have gone unless we got some quality in - hence the arrival of hucks, crouch and harper. the rest is history.now we''re in a similar position as before - an average side (if our showings thus far are a guide to the season ahead) awaiting 2-3 loanees that could make us into a decent side capable of top 6. problem is, this time around the game has altered. we are averagely funded, there are possibly 10 clubs in the champs with more money than us - not the same 4 years ago. also, prem clubs ask for big signing on fees to loan players out - we paid £400,000 to take crouch, hucks and harper for 3 months - possibly that figure would be £1m in today''s money. grant has no budget to compete - according to him, he is forced to sniff out ''bargains'' in the scottish league where wages are lower. the likes of preston who have punched above their weight in previous years are suffering in thecurrent climate - just as we are - trying to compete with teams loaded with prem chute money/millionaire investors ploughing money in - they and we can''t afford it anymore longer. normal business models can''t compete in this enviroment - our prudent model is a seriously busted and out-moded flush.for the life of me, i can''t see why the turners came onto the board with no new money being invested by the rest of the directors, especially when every other team around us is being bought up with new money coming in. what a waste of an opportunity - where''s the ambition??? the reality is unless each director is prepared to wager £5m of their money each year without a guarenteed return there isn''t any. derby did it and won. will mandric suceed at leicester this year, cos if they fail to gain promotion he''ll be seriously out of pocket. watford proved it can be done on a shoestring - but lets face it, do we want to classed a relegation fodder, trying to prove the doubters wrong, and not with 24,000 gates. if we finish bottom 8 this year, will we get full houses nest season??? new investment via the share issue got us promoted and cheaply at that - it makes sense we need new money in again. this season is a watershed season in my view - we need to be challenging this year to steady the ship - else the spiral of decline will continue imo. especially after last year was all about worthy - rather than getting us promotion. what a negligent mismanagement we made of our final seasons chute money. and if we don''t get 2 new central defenders in that can stop the rot, then this season is already going west imo. surely the board and grant can see it - plenty of supporters can. this sums it up for me - steve howard could be got for £1 - 1.5m??? stoke rumoured to be seeking a loan deal for him. i''d like to see him alongside curo and brown loaned out to learn his trade in league one - scoring goals. that''s ambition for me - you can''t take your money with you!!!
