Your worst ever team......

Recommended Posts

Just a bit of fun - if you wanted to guarantee relegation, who are the worst 11 players you would field from past and present NCFC players - interesting to see how many might come from the present squad????

Hard to pick a complete team but here are a few stummers that I remember:-

Goalkeeper            Peter Vasper (no contest with this choice)

Defenders            Charlie Billington,(or this one)  Colin Worrell, Colin Prophett, Graham Englefield

Midfielders            Gerry Howshall, Mike Sutton, Alan Rule

Forwards              Dean Coney, Jim Blair, Brian Conlon, Ron Barnes, Dick Scott.

Mostly blasts from the dim and distant past when we were in the the old third and second divisions.

I wouldn''t class any of the present squad as poor enough to compete with that lot.

On the basis the hapless one played in pretty much every position across the pitch, actually come to think of it the one good game I saw him have was in goal at Huddersfield, but hey! Why be fair on him?

                                             SUICIDAL TEAM!!

                                                        Roger Hansbury

Fernando Derveld            Brian McGovern         Kevin Scott          Paul Heckingbottom

Paul Cook                        Mark Halsey              Shaun Carey         Carl Robinson

                                       Greig Shepherd            Rob Newan

Subs:  Simon Tracey, Andy Hughes, Raymond Dewaard, Paul Dalglish, Dean Coney.

Manager:  John Deehan

Asst. Manager:  Brian Hamilton

I was going to say the midfield is really scary.  Imagine having to field that midfield and even hoping to beat Kings Lynn.  With those strikers and the forwards who are subs, they really would struggle to get 10  goals between them in a season.

Of recent players (from 1980''s onwards) this has to be the worst team.  Mark Halsey, Greig Shepherd and Dean Coney, really should have chosen different careers.  Don''t know how they ever made it into the team???? they had no ability whatsoever, non-league football is a level they would have struggled at.  Sunday Pub football was more their level.

Well i first started going really in 96, so i''ll try and remember the worst X1 of the past 11 years.

GK -Gallagher - awful

RB - Colin - Harsh but i cant think of any truly bad right backs in the period

LB- Derveld- One of those influx of awful overseas investmeents in the late 90''s.

CB - Walsh - what a stupid idea!!!

CB - Charlton - bad just for the reason we signed him instead of keeping mackay!

RM - Graham Stuart - A Gem from worthy. past it has been, trying to keep us up!

LM - Raymond de waard - Awful, wasnt he signed without being seen. was that rioch or hamilton?

CM - Hamilton - On loan from pompey i think. Dire!

CM- Diop - Foreign Flop - got into trouble as well

S - Thorne - Useless

S - Coote - useless

Unfortunate to miss out were:-

Pat Boyle, Paul Heckingbottom, Gary Doherty, Victor Segura, Adrian Forbes, Gary Brady, clint easton

Why do people insist on putting loanees in the side? I think lists like this should be withstricted to players who actually signed for us!

As for my team:

GK - Not sure.

LB - Derveld/Che Wilson

RB - Briggs

CB - Walsh(if I remember rightly the paper did some sort of estimate that he cost £14k for every minute he played for us!).

CB - McGovern

LM - De Ward

RM - Forbes

CM - Milligan

CM - Carey

ST - Coote

ST - Dalgleish

Scarily I have witnessed Carey, Milligan and Forbes in the same midfield! Not a pretty sight, I sometimes wonder how that lot were ever good enough to not get relegated, I think we were incredibly lucky we had a couple of good players to keep us in there.

I reckon that team would get relegated from the football league let alone Championship.

I have seen Anselin in one of the teams. How dare you (in a Max and Paddy tone!)

My team would be...

                              Ward

Sutch        Kevin Scott     Walsh        Brownrigg

Karl Simpson   David Smith   Carey   Llewellyn

                  Coote            Broughton

(I think the 2 strikers actually played together!)

Subs

GK: Marshall (Andy),   DEF: Jonny Wright   MID:  Rush  FOR: Keith Scott  FOR: Thorne

Please don''t defend Sutch. He only ever played in the last 10 mins of a game. What happened the first season he was not a regular?

We got to the playoff final.......

I can''t believe i couldn''t find a place for Clint Easton!!

I''m going for a ''Could have been great but were crap'' team.

            Gally

Helveg   Walsh   Doc   Sutch

Rivers   Hughes   Safri   Llewellyn

      Cottee   Beckford

Such high hopes for them all. Dashed cruelly...

i''ll defend Forbesy and Matty rush here.

Forbesy was quality, we got rid of him just before we got to the playoff final and i think he''d of scared the crap out of birmingham that day! Adrian forbes or Clint Easton?? not a hard choice.. he''d of won us that game.

As for Matt Rush... he picked up an injury so was limited to 2 sub appearences for us, he wasnt bad in either of those. I know someone who knows him and he was gutted when he left, he was a handy player for West ham and wanted the chance to do well at Norwich, he went to oldham for a bit and enjoyed some success there before re-injuring the knee, he had to retire at 27 i think it was and is now a P E Teacher.

jas :)
