we all know most players enjoy a beer so skip colney and carrow road tours and hold talks in our best pubs. i travel from leicester and head straight to the murderers to start pre match drinks. im sure all would be impressed with sky t.v above the urinals.which boozers do you think would get players to sign contracts on the spot

Might I suggest the following as rather fine City hostelries: The Coach and Horses (Thorpe Road), The Fat Cat; Kings Head and Ribs of Beef (Magdalen St), Kings Arms (Hall Road) and The Rosary. Talking of bars - had anybody noticed that Brannigans on Riverside has now ceased trading? It makes you wonder if any of the other "mega" bars down there are in trouble.

I would agree with all of those establishments, although I would add the Mischief, but purely for my own sentimental student-days reason!  I though brannigans was closed for refurb?

alot of the players visit the Hog in armour on st benidicts,

ive seen MLJ, dickson, Mcveigh, a few times, also seen mike milligan a lot, paul crichton, flem and mckay used to play darts alot b4 the refurb

they had the whole squad in their when we won the champ

Have to say Ken Aries has mentioned a few!  Including my two locals   lol.  I could add a couple to the list, the Rose on Queen''s Rd (near the Kings) and also for a nice bit of atmosphere (haunted!) the Adam and Eve off Bishopsgate.

Jas, it seems the King''s Head has had something of a revamp...

"A banner over the front door proclaimed the news of a CAMRA award - Norwich Pub of the Year 2006 - and on settling down with a pint of KHB I could see why.

There are two bars, one smoking (at the front) and one non-smoking (a large room to the rear). The decor is ''traditional'' with wood flooring throughout and large windows give it quite a light feel. The no-smoking policy and the lack of carpet give it quite a fresh atmosphere underpinned by the faint but sweet aroma of quality beers. The pub sits on a busy main street, but on entry, one steps in to a little oasis of peace.

I was there on a Saturday afternoon and the pub was reasonably full with a fair cross section of society. Families resting after a day in the shops, a few couples en route to the football, bookish types sitting quietly on their own - deep in literature and one or two others poring over newspapers. There is no music or TV in this pub. It has a peaceful atmosphere permeated my the organic sound of conversation, the turning of a page or footsteps along the wood floor."

I find that The Bridge House on Riverside Road next to Godfrey''s DIY is a nice little watering hole and the pub on the opposite side of the road by the river, The Red Lion, is quite nice and the food is good too [:P][:D].

 Tim Howard, i know the beehive pub, Greeno used to drink in there too... Along with a few others from CNS school...

I saw Greeno in there the day before a first team game once! i was tempted to telephone Mr Rioch and tell him!

So many pubs to choose from in this fine City!!!

Not mentioned yet... The Duke of Wellington, The Alexandra Tavern, The Nelson, The Trafford Arms, The Shed, The Whalebone, The Belgian Monk etc etc....

The best for selection of Real Ale has got to be The Kings Arms on Hall Road....  If you are after an excellent pint and a bit of peace and quiet then you can''t go far wrong with the Kings Head on Magdalen Street (don''t think I have stayed there for longer than a pint or two though as it is just too quiet for my liking). Brannigans is not closed 4 a refurb, it has closed 4 good due to its

lack of business on every night apart from a saturday. No way can any

business keep trading on a 1 in 7 day week.I alrady happen 2 know

xactly what they are turning the unit in2, but I am not allowed 2 say

before official word from owners. None of the other venues on Riverside

have any financial troubles. However, Lloyds No.1 bar is now renaming

itself "The Queen of Icini". I know this because I work on Riverside

and I know many people, and I usually find things out ahead of the

general public.

That''s interesting Adam, I wondered what was happening to it, seems the culture on Riverside of drinking to excess by many young people is not going to sustain or drive profits up or is it something to do with their conceived ideas on the impact of the no smoking ban on July 1st?  But why is this happening to Brannigans and not the others such as Lloyds and Squares?

Is Lloyds now going upmarket?  Is this really not due to lack of profits, should you be correct in saying the other businesses down there are all doing well?  Seems strange, although I suppose they all refurb themselves at intervals.

a lot of CNS went to the beehive cos it was owned by the parents of someone in my year, alot of his mates therefore started drinking during their school years there!!!!

i used to play regularly with my band at the Kings Head in the late 80s/early 90s. It was a bit rough and ready then but popped in there for a quick drink before a curry shortly after moving away in ''97 and it felt like a hostel for care in the community and an assortment of pyschos.

I remember playing too in The Mischief, Louis Marchesi, Festival House, The Lawyer and Hog in Armour.

Now, where are my pipe and slippers....

Jas, the new owners of the Kings Head have done an excellent job in their total refurb of the pub - it would be virtually unrecognisable to anybody familiar with the old venue. The owners, in their own words, are enthusiastic Camra members - and it shows. They dispense real ales of a consistently good quality in oversize glasses - so you are never served short measures. They have decided to specialise in real ales from East Anglia only, and they refuse to sell any of that lager muck - although they do stock Belgian and Czech beers. The main reason they decided on a lager-free zone was to keep the riff-raff away - and it works. For all those who have never been to the revamped Kings Head, I can thoroughly recommend a visit.

I love the Kings Head too. Its a great, great pub with an excellent selection of ales.They do sell lager though. They have Jever (a north german lager) in bottles as well as some Czech ones.

Gaz, trust me my friend, i knew bout Brannigans closing the same day

the owners decided it. Lloyds has constant business al thru the day cos

of their location and prices compared 2 any1 else in the area. All

other venues on Riverside are doing very good business, especially

Hollywood Bowl, UCI cinema and Lava Ignite. Squares are the most

expensive place on Riverside to drink, they survive purely cos of that

fact, and the fact that they love da footie season cos they make a mint

on matchdays. Brannies was jus a cheap venue 2 go b4 headin 2 places

like Lava Ignite, Mercy, Liquid, etc.jus 2 get drunk 4 less. i know

more people in the city than u and i have had hot dinners mate so trust

me with this.
