Here''s a section from a report on the Chairman of Darbair Caaaaaarntair (The Rams)

"Too many people taking control of football clubs have no affinity with them,"

"For us this is more than an investment, it is a way of life. And this is our football club. Derby is my city and it is where I made my livelihood.

"I have always been involved in sport and Derby deserves a great team. We have got 20,000 season ticket holders who have always been there for the club and they deserve it too.

"But the club was close to entering administration when we arrived and could have gone under.

"The people at the helm then had no interest in the wellbeing of the football club. It was only an investment and it was an investment that was going wrong.

"Our dream was to rebuild the club. It was a great club that had been in the Premiership before but had seen some poor times and we were deep in debt.

"We had to stabilise things but we also had to show Billy that we were prepared to invest.

Sound like Delia?

The year we went up she could do no wrong and said and did all the right things

Now look at the comments she gets....

They say in FOOTBALL for a player you are only as good as your last game. For a board you are only as good as your last season.........look at our last 3 seasons?????????

FOOTBALL MUST COME FIRST

I think the last sentence sums up the difference between the two clubs and why Delia has been getting stick. They invested heavily in the team with no Prem money in a drive to gain it, whilst we had the Prem millions and let the squad go to rack and ruin whilst millions went on infrastructure. I`m sure 99% of supporters would stop criticising if we showed similar ambition on the pitch.

Derby were one goal away from paying a heavy penalty for that heavy team investment.  Kevin Phillips thinks that West Brom are likely to lose a lot of players as the result of failing to acheive promotion.  I would like to see enough investment to give us a squad capable of finishing in the top 6, but I''d be concerned if that investment was to the detriment of the long term future of the club - not that I could see the current board allowing that to happen.
The only difference that I can see is the level of investment and the reward achieved as a result of that investment., of course for all I know they could be zillions of pounds in debt (I am sure NN will be able to tell us).
Haven''t got a clue SOB but I doubt that they are in debt.

If that''s a reference to what I said about Southampton then you are way off the mark. Southampton interested me because they were in the same position as us with parachute payments etc. It''s an interesting comparison that even our boards strongest critics on here commented on.

I love how you bring me into so many of your posts, I feel like I have a stalker with a horn on his helmet [&]

Im sure the current board would not allow FOOTBALL get in the way of their ambitions they have for NCPLC.

Derby''s new board invested 25m, but some of this has gone to restructuring the previously huge loan (52m). I think we all know they did spend big on players though. Its quite quick to google it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/derby/content/articles/2006/04/28/derby_county_takeover_2006_feature.shtmlBB - so what do you view our board''s ambitions as being then?

NN - Do not be so sensitive dear boy, I merely mentioned your name as you seem clued up on all things footy and I thought you might research the issue (given that I am a lazy git!!). I also thought your post regarding Southampton was very good.

After my post I saw a BBC teletext item that stated Derby have a "manageable debt of around £10m", apparantley their debt was around £60 million when the current investors took over.

Having researched this a little more it strikes me that there is more of a comparison between us and Derby County than meets the eye - They have around 20,000 season ticket holders who have been there through thick and thin and their Chairman (who headed the group of investors) has a real affinity for the city of Derby and Derby County FC (he is from Derby and made his money in Derby).

I totally accept that what Derby have done was a gamble, but it paid off for them, they may come straight back down but of course it will be yet another wealthy club we will have to compete with if they do.

Sorry mate, I guess was being a bit sensitive SOB.

I don''t think Derby gambled in the same way as Southampton. I am not a fan of Billy Davies but he has certainly done a good job for Derby County and he admitted that it was a 3 year plan so I am sure they didn''t gamble everything on this season. Derby''s new board and especially Gadsby seem to be real Derby people and I bet there''s a real feel good factor around the club right now from the Chairman to the fans just like we had in 2004.

When the new board took over at Derby in April 2006 they announced that the club was 52m in debt. Five businessmen then put in 5m each. They invested a large amount of that into the football and now announce a manageable debt of less than 10m. Can anyone make those figures add up?

Thanks NN, like you I cannot quite grasp how you can go from a debt of £52m to £10m when investors only put in £25m a lot of which appears to have gone on players/wages (Derby bought 12 players, a couple of them from Premiership sides). maybe NCFC should be talking the Derby board/investors.......[:D]
