Player Ratings v Coventry

Gallacher 5 - could have saved the goal and flapped around generally

Hughes 5 - looked like a player out of position

Doherty 5 - did either centre half win a single header in the first half, shambolic

Shackell 4 - very poor

Drury 6 - best of a shambolic defense

Fozzy 4 - where was he playing?  Was he playing?

Etuhu 5 - from the first 10 minutes it looked like he was playing today.  He failed to keep it up.

Lappin 5 - did he know where he was meant to play in our shambolic midfield

Huckerby 6 - poor game but still the only player creating

Martin 8 - quiet in the first half but played much better in the second

Brown 6 - lacked service

Subs

Simply shocking, from team selection, formation, positioning of players through to individual performances.  Were these the same big tiome charlies that performed so admirably last Saturday when more concerned with whos shirt they would end up with then concentrating on training?  No individual comments for fear of rage taking over...

Gallacher 5

Hughes 4

Doc 5

Shax 5

Drury 5

Fozzy 4

Lappin 4

Etuhu 4 how bad does he have to be to get subbed?  Would have been three but for the first ten minuted when I though we may actually get a full performance from him

Hux 6 - first half 4 - second 7.

Brown 6 - cant understand why he was subbed;  any suggestion of an injury is laughable;  worked hard with no service or support, blew his only chance.

Martin 5 - first half 4,  simply not involved and out of his depth, worked hard in second and took chance well but clearly a man against boys 6

Subs

Croft 5 - at least gave us a shape

McV 5 - best creative passing came from him - he was influential and had his best game for a season; no surprise as he was playing where he performs best - just behind the front two;  he did that better than fozzy

Safri 5 - gave us some bite in midfield.

The shape was awful and clearly the players didnt know what expected from them;  fozzy in the first half did what hughes and jarret before him have done when asked to play wide right - drifted in field - further across on occasions than lappin, a left back/midfielder asked to play in the centre - yet we have three central midfielders on the pitch with only one of them playing central midfield - when he wakes up that is - is it any wonder we lost control of the midfield and Coventry dominate the game.

Hughes worked hard at right back but is no defender - where is the evidence that he brings more attacking threat than Colin?  I cross at the end of the first half?   Colin has been getting in more crosses and shots than that per game recently and is a far more accomplished defender.

We have to return to a system the players understand and stick with it for more  than 50 mins - all this chopping and changing of systems has created the same confusion we saw in the prem season which only resolved itself at the manure game we finally played not the managers favourites but the best footballers in their best positions in a formation that they have understood all their lives.

Finally on hux up front/wide - when the coventry defenders goofed up a la luton for our goal;  does anyone have any confidence that brown or martin would have taken the ball and crossed for the equaliser?   It wouldnt have been hux because he would have been in front of the defenders instead of beside/behind ready to benefit.   At the moment he is our only creative force and has to stay up front - we looked like we had a shape and game plan when lappin and croft went wide but clueless before.

For Luton

Gally

Colin   Doc  Shacks  Drury

Croft  Safri   Fozzy  Lappin

         Hux     Martin

PS  We look like a team with about 7 different cliques in the squad rather than any unity;  which may explain the lack of battle or passion

You people clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I mean fair enough there were some players who werent putting 100% in and others that werent really sure where they were playing, but to give them ratings of 4''s and 5''s is utter bollox to be honest.

Gallagher 6 - because he cant command his players and tell them where he wants them.

Hughes - 7.5 gave his all despite being out of position, composed and I was gobsmacked to see him subbed off ahead off Fozzy today.

Doherty - 7.5 Put a lot of effort in today and was one of the few cuty players getting to the second ball.

Shackell - 7 His heart was in it but struggled against a very strong forward but always did enough to get the ball back upfield.

Drury - 8 Strong performance as ever, just what we have come to expect of him weel in week out.

Lappin - 7 Came into it more in the second half, showing a couple of good turns. not scared of a tackle, but not as strong as others.

Etuhu - 6 For 10 minutes really looked up for it and as if he would be in charge of the game, but you can never tell with Dickson.

Fozzy - 5 Missed a sitter, not as gooder performance as Leeds 2 weeks ago, and looked a bit clueless if im honest.

Huckers - 7 First 75 minutes wasnt his day but as usual towards the end he came into his own, but its vital we keep him out on the             wing the whole game and resist the urge to put him upfront because in my opinion hes an outright winger.

Brown - 5 Failed to win the ball in the air and Kyle and Adebola at the other end really showed what he should be doing.

Martin - 8 First half looked a bit clueless but in the second really stared and deserved his goal. He will be a class player for this club.

Subs.

Mcveigh - 7 Played well, looked to supply some intellegent balls.

Croft - 7 Worked very hard for the team defensively and showed he is a lot quicker now, but admittedly wasnt as good in attack bar a few good runs.

Safri - 8 Really lifted the team once he came on and was superb at picking up those second balls between defense and midfield, proved his worth in my opinion.

Grant - next year will be the season we find out whether hes a good manager or not and thats only if we are in this league, but I find it hard to be opptimistic, because I seem to remember a good amount of the points we gained this year were under Worthys reign when we went on what Worthy himself would describe as a "Deleightful" run at the start of the season, before it all went pear-shaped.

Hughes   5   Not his best game, silly errors, nearly gifted Coventry a goal, not good

Doherty   5  Clumsy, Poor Distribution, just awful

Shackall   7   Solidish, no distribution but had to cover for doherty and did it ok.

Drury   7   Nothing Spectacular, but didnt do much wrong.

Fozzie  5/6   Looked Lost and out of position, occaisonal neat touch but very quiet

Lappin   6   Not Much to report, neat and tidy

Etuhu   6/7  As Neil Adams said, harshly overcritisized, Tried to get stuck in and get into the game.

Huckerby   7   Not at his best, but casued enough problems to help us equalise

Brown   5      Awful, just about the worst centre forward ive seen a t norwich. No goal threat, wasted a good chance, anfd every header he won went the wrong way

Martin   8/9   Quiet first half, but awesome second, capped by a deserved goal.

Subs

Safri   7   Steadied the ship, neat and tidy

Mcveigh   7   Looked Lively amazingly

Would agree with the above team but we can''t afford to be with out Ethu he is by fair our best midfielder, although I agree he does lack a high level of concentration. So Fozzy on the bench for me

hahahahaha   we got outplayed by a side that has lost their last 5 away games.  Hughes - did you spot him run away from the play just before their guy had that awful shot?  He was also beaton to the ball for the goal.  We got totally outplayed by an awful team for much of the game and Marshall barely had a save to make.  The defense was a shambels and made error after error, back passses almost being caught, pasing the ball to coventry players, The doc letting teh ball bnounce over his head, Gallacher fumbling yet again.  If Coventry had some sharper players we would have been beatin just as easily as Plymouth and Burnley beat us.

In fact the goal we did score came from a howler from the coventry defender.

We have 3 match changing players - Hucks, Dublin and Earnshaw.  That is it.  The formation, tacticds and team selection today were utterly appalling.

Its no surprise we are only 3 points off the relegation zone

Gallacher 4 - more flap than marshall.  gives no confidence to leaky defence.

Hughes 5 - not at his best today, but good effort as usual

Doherty 3 - very disappointed, played like he couldn''t give a ****

Shackell 6 - made some important interceptions - needs dion alongside to play to his best

Drury 7 - reliable as usual.

Fozzy 5 - gave good effort, but jaded performance today, after leg sapping recent displays - didn''t help that he was played well out of position.

Etuhu 4 - bitterly disappointed for him - great performance against chelsea - no show toda.  perhaps he is a prem player???  this week in the champs backs to usual.

Lappin 4 - i wish he was lappin it up, but alas a ''simon charlton'' no show - playing a left winger/wing back in centre midfield was a disaster.  still yet to see  ''the best crosser in scotland'' put over a dangerous cross/set piece.

Huckerby 7 - quite first half, much better second half - especially after booked for diving - played with uber-passion then. but without him, we''ve no-one creative enough to set up chances.  please, please, please stay fit hucks.

Martin 8 - quiet in the first half, looked ineffective and lightweight, but came alive second half, looked strong, made good runs and scored!

Brown 6 - never looked like scoring, gave 100%, but misfiring today - looked jaded.

Subs

Croft 7 - made a difference, did well to track back when we went 3 at the back.

McVeigh 7 - had the bit between his teeth today, had some belief, and created some good chances.

Safri 8 - looked classy soon as he came on - got involved and worked hard.

Manager

Grant - 5 disppointed with line up, playing players out of position is one thing, but when it wasn''t working, it needed changing, not waiting until second half.  imo, coventry bossed the first half and were the team most likely to score.  we made them look better than they were, but our formation and tactics gifted them a lead.  criminal and naive. bet dowie couldn''t believe his luck.

Brown 4.5 What is the point of this joker?

Subs

Safri 6 an improvement

Croft 6 Effort, some runs and a threat

McVeigh 7.5 Well done the wee man. almost won the game for us with his tenacity and intelligence. Must continue this upturn in form.

8/9 for Martin are you having a laff? Did nothing in the first half and yes he was much better in the second half but still it needs to be a 90mins perfomance to get an 8 or a 9

Gallacher 4 - Shows how much we will miss Marshall, hes average at best

Hughes 5 - ok at times but some silly mistakes let him down

Doherty 4 - did either centre half win a single header in the first half, shambolic

Shackell 7 - best of a bad bunch

Drury 6 - Ok, didnt see much of him

Fozzy 5 - Clearly unsure of his position

Etuhu 5 - The good, the bad and the ugly we saw it all today

Lappin 5 - part of a messy midfield looked confused and out of place

Huckerby 6 - generally quiet, better in second half

Martin 7 - rubbish first half, much better second

Brown 7 - Worked hard, strong in the air

Subs

Croft 6 - Worked hard but had little impact

McVeigh 7 - Good to see the little guy playing well again

Safri 7 - Why did we not start with him?

Manager

Grant 5 - Its a tough game, not exactly had the luck recently but why has he not strenthened the defence?

Etuhu is probably the most talented midfielder we have had in 20 years - he is strong, fast, good in the air, hard in the tackle and two good feet.  As we saw against Chelsea and for the first 10 mins yesterday he can a bigger impact on the way a game goes than even hux or earnie.

Yet yet yet,  he seems unable to read a game, react to loose balls and disappears for far too long.  Safri did more with in the disruptive and passing role in the time he was on yesterday than Etuh did in 90 mins.  The fact he averages 1 tackle per game less than Hux tells you how much he goes missing.   For the key part of the pitch such absences cannot be tolerated.

This is exactly how the Preston fans said he would be when we signed him. What makes anyone think he is going to suddenly change? IMO, if we can get any money for him at the end of the season then we should jump at the chance.
