Missing in action: Our right side

Recommended Posts

Watching the first half yesterday left me utterly exasperated with Grant. What on earth made him decide to ditch almost our entire right side? Our specialist right sided players, Lee Croft and Jurgen Colin sat on the bench.  The match report says Brown was supposedly playing right side of attack, but I can tell you he damn well wasn''t. While Fotherthingham was playing mostly in central midfield, even wandering out to the left. Leaving Andy Hughes totally isolated.Coventry''s tactics became painfully simple: get the ball out to our right flank, and attack at will. With Hughes coming inside to cover the reliably inept Doherty, there were times when not a single yellow and green shirt stood in the right hand third of the pitch! This was so obvious in the opening 20 minutes, when a change had to be made. But Grant did doing nothing about it. We were lucky Coventry only scored the once in the first half, otherwise a defeat would have been guaranteed.

I don''t understand that one. I''m all for playing Martin and he''s proved he''s up to it but why not have Hucks on the left, Croft on the right and Brown and Martin up front. That would seem the obvious to me!! Brown on the right of midfield is mad!

Can''t argue with this post, why has P.G dropped Colin in prefference to Hughes I think the Croft/Colin   partnership is one of our strongest assets. Put this with a blooming Drury/Lappin left side and we are starting to look a threat as well as defensivly sound on both sides of the field.

Hughes offered much more going forward than Colin would have done and he had a blinder but I would have reverted to the Colin and Croft combo for the league!

Croft was not fit, and apparently had not been fit when he was risked against PNE. Hughes has been tried there and... So what other options di Grant have? The experience proved that whatever qualities he has, Fotheringhaa is  ot a right winger. Fozzy is one of a long line who have been tried there, including Hux, McV and Robinson. Centrel midfielders tend to drift inside to their natural positions, and that is exactly what happened.I am slightly surprised that he didn''t try a Colin/Hughes right side, with Colin further forward, but Colin now seems out of favour.
