One to watch... Southampton FC

Just goes to show there''s not as much cash out there as some seem to think and a change of board isn''t always for the best... not saying that this one example means that the same would happen to us, it''s just interesting and shows the grass isn''t always greener...From the BBC:Southampton chairman steps down

Southampton

Michael Wilde has resigned as chairman of Southampton, and will relinquish the role with effect from Wednesday.

He has also stepped down as a director of the club, and

as vice-chairman and a director of parent company Southampton Leisure

Holdings plc (SLH).

Wilde, 54, replaced Rupert Lowe as Saints'' club chairman in June 2006.

A statement read: "Michael led the initiative to secure new investment monies. He has been unsuccessful in those endeavours."

It added: "In consequence of this, the board reassigned the task of raising new funds to other directors of SLH.

"Michael remains a significant shareholder and intends to continue attending Southampton matches as an avid supporter."

It''s not surprising this post has been left to die!

Southampton also have the manager a lot of you wanted here, they have a new stadium, they are certainly not a smaller club than us. I always think of us on a par with them status wise.

Any of the "Delia sell up" merchants care to comment or shall we let this drop off the page again.

Apologies, didn''t see this the first time.

The thing with Southampton is that they are simply ahead of us in the cycle. They lost their manager after relegation, got in Burley and he''s turned them around on the pitch, so their status looks good at the moment with them in the play-off picture. We were months behind with Worthington leaving and so it''ll take us a similar period for Grant to get things moving.

This just goes to show that results alone don''t dictate the health and well-being of a football club. "Sacking the board" as is churned out by the half-dozen noisy''s on here, won''t mean that we start winning games. Southampton winning games doesn''t equate to everything being rosy for them either.

No comment yet then?

I just rescued this before it dropped off the page again. I''ll check it out again when I get back from Luton!

So...he''s not very good at his job. Get rid and appoint someone else.

Simple business procedure...but not happening at CR of course. Also...where exactly are Southampton in the league compared with us? What sort of player quality do they have generally? Do they have a great youngster (as well as selling Walcott) to move on in the summer for reinvestment?

No comparison. They''ve done well...we remain a laughing stock.

Next!

Next, Cluck?Well there are a number of other threads on here in which you''ve been asked to provide evidence for your theories, yet you''ve failed to answer any of them without trying to change the subject... The "next" you speak of is already there, you just like to ignore the ones you can''t answer...

its very difficult to know what to say when we arent privvy to all the information.. suffice to say from reading that he was charged with generating funds for the club and hasnt done that... what is Southamptons financial situation?

to be fair he hasnt done hos job.. he has been issued targets, and not reached thm.. he has been givena  brief and its clear from that report hasnt fulfilled it.. so he has walked away... he has shown the guts to admit he has gotten it wrong and is letting a new man take the club forward.

I wonder if Delia is reading

jas :)
