Why would you sign

Recommended Posts

At present if you were a young lad why would you sign a Pro contract for Norwich?

 Consider the following.

A poor reserve league with hardly any fixtures.

Play with the youth team because it is too cold for the senior pros who have a chill

A policy that even if you are getting stuffed at home against Plymouth and the hype has been about you all week, and you are sitting on the bench the Manager still does not put you on

If you play international football at under 19/20 you still cannot make the squad ahead of  Muppets

You get sent to Torquay as far away as possible to a club in turmoil, or you might get lucky and enjoy the delights of Rotheram

You will be sent to Kings Lynn to further your career that you have worked for all your life under a Manager who your Gaffer sacked

You will be paid £200 a week while the likes of Thorn and Mcveigh become even fatter cats

If lucky you might be allowed a guest apperance on the bench in the Carling cup against raggy arse rovers

You may be allowed to train with a no body from a premier club who comes in on loan to take your place and start in the first team

It appears that by shipping out all the youngsters Peter Grant is no longer under any pressure to play them.Very Very Clever!

I think you are being unfairly harsh on Grant.

There is a huge difference in playing international football at under 21 level and playing against experienced pros in the Championship.  Realistically Grant has no idea how good the youngsters are and that is what he is trying to find out by loaning them to clubs like Torquay.

Worthy destroyed whatever confidence Henderson had by playing him out of position, and, we should be grateful that Grant is taking a much responsible approach with the youngsters.

Grant didn''t sign Thorne or McVeigh so how can the fact that they are on excessively generous contracts be his fault?

West Ham got promoted with a team of decent youngsters, and I think Grant wants to to the same at Norwich but we need to give him time.

Because you realise that you''re not very good and Norwich is the biggest club you''ll have to play/sign for. No matter how much some fans of the club believe you to be better than you really are.

If I were a young lad I''d sign a pro contract because these things don''t get offered out like christmas cards. Only a small minority of good players ever get contracts. Some outstanding players are never spotted let alone get contracts.

These young lads are in the very early stages of development and our facilities our of a premiership standard. This is a great place to develop. Fact is, we don''t have a great deal of talent in the area right now.

A top class traning facility and stadium. Great City and fan base - yes, still - unproven but energetic manager, reputation for quality football - yes, still - reputation for developing top class talent - yes, still. Tarnished a bit perhaps, but still true.

Frankly if you have little chance of regularly playing in the Premiership against the world''s best talent, a career at a club like Norwich, Forest, Preston, Sunderland seems like a pretty good deal to me..

What have they got to do with anything?

They''re all in the past.

because your dream is to play professional football - oh let''s see Norwich youth or Colchester youth..... come on evrey team outside the premiership has the same problems - if you are a smart lad you join the biggest club possible even if they''re in  rough patch - by the time you are ready to play who knows where any team will be.

[/quote]You''re right there, YR.Not so much since I moved, but I used to get to see a very classy midfielder in action - could pick a pass at will, had time and space on the ball in any situation, could pick the team up by the scruff of its neck when not performing, and could literally stroll past defenders or other midfielders.  He has vision, he has energy, and he has all the battling qualities needed in a Championship team. The player? He is in his late 30s/early 40s and plays Sunday League in Norfolk...Go figure...

Oh how the past is so easily dismissed on this forum....and an all too easy side step.

Looking back allows us to avoid similar mistakes and learn from them. It also provides greater experience on which to base the future strategy taken.

Good young lads are out there....but we are set on utilising journeymen and reserve team cast offs. The scouting set up at CR these days is appalling....and is the major reason why our club is in trouble. Even if sorted tomorrow...it will take a year or two to be of any use....and meanwhile the kids will go elsewhere with better prospects. The parents of youngsters have a major say in where they sign....and as parents they know how limp and fluffy Norwich City FC is these days.

The past isn''t dismissed on this forum, it''s rewritten to suit whatever point is trying to be made.
