The limit of NCFC and it's boards ambitions...

Recommended Posts

If the limit of our boards ambitions is signing Chris Brown (a reject striker from Sunderland) then we may as well all throw the towel in..

"11 goals in 67 appearances" is an appalling strike rate...  a goal every 6+ games...  we may as well just play Ryan Jarvis upfront!!!

Added to that we are likely to sign another dud Scottish Goalkeeper on loan...

Earnie and Dixon on their way to Sheff Utd...

No player with any ambition is now going to want to sign for us...

Where are the remaining 15 or 16 points going to come from that are going to see us safe from relegation???

When are we going to demand action from this inept board of ours???

I agree Chris Brown does not appear to have a great record. Marshall (the scottish keeper) on the other hand would be a great acquisition and would be 1st choice no question. We have not sold Earnshaw. The boards only mistake was giving Worthington too much money which is why we re now in this position. I dont think the board''s ambition should be in question; we need to look after ourselves financially.

Lets give the guy a chance

1) 33 of those games are as a sub with the majority likely to be 15/20 minute cameos. 11 goals in 33 starts is all right, especially when he''s been playing in a struggling team most of the time.

2)"Dud scottish goalkeeper" - is this the same person who is number 2 at the scottish champions and one of europes top 16 teams. The same person who got rave reviews against barecelona , the same goalkeeper who is only number 2 at celtic because of a polish international. The same gk who gorden strachan doesnt want to get rid of.

3) "Earny and dixon on their way to sheffield united". Have i missed something? NCFC are interested in riordan doesnt mean were going to sign him. Would earnshaw want to go and risk being relegated, i doubt it. And of course Etuhus been brilliant in the last 2/3 months, the old francis, lazy and cant be bothered. If we got £1million for him i''d laugh non stop for a week. If we got £6million for earnshaw we could buy all these superstars you want. Who do you think we should sign, a cheeky £2million bid for darren bent?, or how about lets try and beat birmingham to the capture of rowan vine. I dont think so. Get real, we are struggling in the championship, with no hope of premiership football for 18 months at least.

4) Then you contradict yourself. You want better than brown, yet talk sense when admitting no-one great will sign for us. Brown is better than Jarvis, he has no strength, no height, no pace and no great finishing ability.

5) 5 Wins, i think we''ll manage it. We''ve won at WBA and birmingham with htis mottley bunch and so im not worried about relegation. 3 Points on saturday will be a start.

6) I do agree!!! Our board do seem to have lost their way a little a bit, delias gone quiet, the moneys dried up. We do need answers.

If Chris Brown is the answer, what''s the question? I thought Grant had been repeating Worthy''s mantra of "there''s no point bringing in players who are no better than we''ve got already". Mr Brown appears to fit that category quite well for me. Let''s hope he doesn''t prove to be Earnie''s replacement, that really would take a lot of tolerance to accept. Grrrr!

(1 and 4)  Jarvis = 5 goals in 12 starts and Chris Brown = 11 goals in 33 starts or so you say (the only figures that I have seen for him are 11 goals in 67 appearances).  Those figures would suggest that Jarvis is at least his equal!!!

(2)  Gallagher was first choice for Scotland when we signed him and look how c**p he is.  If Celtic think Marshall is so good then I am sure that they won’t let him go…  I am damn sure that we ain’t going to break the bank to get him here.  Why are Celtic letting the guy out on loan if he is such an asset to them?

(3) http://new.pinkun.com/content/ncfc/story.aspx?brand=PINKUNOnline&category=Norwich&tBrand=PinkUnOnline&tCategory=Norwich&itemid=NOED09%20Jan%202007%2017%3A59%3A15%3A583

Blades linked with Earnshaw

Have suggested many other players that we should be able to a competitive offer in for on other threads…

Strikers…  Chris Porter (Oldham), Billy Sharp (Scunthorpe), Scott Vernon & Keigan Parker (Blackpool), Luke Varney or Nicky Maynard (Crewe), Will Hoskins (Rotherham prior to Watford signing him earlier this week).

All of these players should be within our budget!

We should also have a bash at getting Nathan Tyson off Forest when the inevitable happens and we sell Earnie.

(5)  3 points on Saturday?  Lets just wait and see what Plymouth have to say about that shall we???  Bet they are rubbing their hands together at the prospect of visiting Carrow Road!!!

(6)  I will agree with you on this final point…  after all it is getting more and more difficult not to!!!

I have no need or desire to see Chris Brown play over a sustained period of time Chris Meadows… and neither it appears do most of the managers that have had to witness the guys sparkling talents…

He is back up to the mighty strikeforce of an ageing Dwight Yorke, Jonathan Stead, Kevin Smith, David Connolly and Daryl Murphy but good enough to pull on a green and yellow shirt???

Need I say anymore???

We get quality like earny, ashton etc...but look, maybe its not so much quality but the hunger to play we need. At 22 he''s still young and probably just wants regular first team football. For christ sake. DEAL WITH IT SMUDGER, IF WE GET HIM WE DO, ACCEPT IT OR DONT. EITHER WAY IF HE''S HERE HE''S HERE.

He may not be a ronaldinho, wayne rooney, or drogba. But as you like others have said...you cant see n e one wanting to sign for norwich, so i dont think the latest news should have amazed you

I would guess that our scouts have seen some potential in him at least. I know nothing about the player and I am sure none of us on here do either.

Not an awe inspiring signing I admit, if he comes to us, but then again he might just prove to be a find. Give the guy a break at least....

I don''t understand how so many posters and "season ticket holders" have never seen Chris Brown play. He played 90 mins at Carrow Road for Sunderland in November. I think he missed a couple of chances and was the player in the penalty appeal against DD. I don''t remember being overly impressed mind!

I have to say I am like alot of you disappointed with the apparent signing of Chris Brown. I don''t know anything about the guy so don''t know whether he will be good or not but it does show how our club has sunk in the past 2 seasons.

Obviously the transfer window hasn''t shut yet and I really hope that we bring in some players that will excite and bring optimisim for the rest of this season and next - but the signs aren''t good are they. We are apparently being out bid (transfer & wages) for our top targets by rival Championship clubs and the pond we now seem to be fishing in is the reserves of the same teams - not promising for the future. Lets at least get some players who are playing regularly in their respective 1st teams - even if they are in lower leagues.

Season ticket renewals are up shortly and I live in hope that the board will realise that they must show at least some ambition through fear that sales will fall go through the floor - but their continued silence is deafining and i''m not holding out too much hope.

The teams that are throwing the money around and showing ambition are Sunderland and Derby - and what do they have in common - they were both taken over in the summer by people prepared to invest money in the club. I appreciate the many debates that have already taken place on this board about who is out there to do the same for us - my challenge to the board is they need to get new money into this club and quickly - if not just be honest with us long suffering fans and say that their aspirations and finances mean they feel success for NCFC is staying in the championship.

Great post Judge...

That is exactly the level that our board aspires to...  "they feel success for NCFC is staying in the championship."

Any higher than that is "over acheivement" in the words of the one and only Mr Doncaster!!!

Smudger are you a fan or supporter?

fans sing when they are winning, supporters support the club through thick and thing and funnily enough ''support'' the clubs descions.

every post you post its complaining about the board about the manager about the players about the groundsman about the service at mcdonalds. you should of made a new years resolution to stop complaing, its not to late. why dont you just add something constructive for a change, else ask for a "smudgers complaints to free up forum space" thread, maybe you could get it stickied.

brown i think will be a good signing, we wont do any worse than before, we have our 17 goal hitman still and now someone young to help him, someone who will get goals with time.

just stop complaing and start again when we are in league 1, should that happen i will join in. til then leave it and look on the brightside for a change

Matt you are a lovely old shannock, may i ask you why were 33 games played from the bench ?was he not good enought to start the game ?, then Scottish goalkeepers we all know they are a joke , after all we have got a right one, and no mistake .if this crazy board of ours wants to sign a striker the best i have seen for years  without a  doubt is the boy Mcleod from M.K.Dons .o.k. they may want 2million for him but don''t you think this is far better than paying 500 k for bit player hoping he is going to come good when he could not keep a place in a team lower than us?

I am afraid Smudger, Cluck et al  that spinning too hard the other way is not particularly helpful in winning the argument over the direction and strategy of the club.

There are only 12 strikers in the Chumpionship this season with 9 or more goals in a maximum of 27 starts i.e. a rate of 1 goal every 3 matches.

Thus the quote of Chris Brown''s rate of 11 in 33 starts for Sunderland which would equate to about 15 league goals in a full season is not too bad. Give the lad a chance.

According to Smudger, Ryan Jarvis has scored 5 goals in 12 starts, This would equate to an even better rate of about 19 league goals in a full season. Give this lad a chance too.

I would tell each lad that they will get 10 games each (minimum 70 min/match) beside Earnie in a 4-4-2 before the end of the season - and the reward for either or both for scoring 5 goals would be an improved contract. [Advice gratis Neil, yes gratis].

Good luck Peter Grant, kids for buttons and all that........

Now Delia, let''s see Camp (preferably) or Marshall (worth a try), a top-class central defender and an inspirational midfielder.

Well Brown has pretty good stats on Football Manager, so maybe thats what Grant is using for his scouting.

oh and would the rest of you like some cheese with that whine?

What you have to remember is that Sunderland unlike City are on an upward curve. That being the case the question has to be asked ''why did they sell Brown''. I know they have a replacement but all clubs fighting for promotion will keep their players''. So it must be assumed that Brown is not up to the grade required by an ambiguous club wanting promotion.

if we''ve signed Chadwick and now this let-down, i wouldn''t be at all suprised if theres only one more signing making the three for the window, so don''t expect a keeper defender and midfielder unless they''re about 40, work part time in tesco and play for yarmouth town.

The Championship standard is now the standard and The Premiership is a dream land away and an over achievement and no longer an ambition for our board, every thing about our club screams ''Championship standard and below'', players, manager and most definitely the board.

We are no longer a big fish in a little pond, always aiming at top 6, mid table nowshould be what we all pray for then if we can acheive this we will be in dream land right everyone? This club is a joke, and everyone is having a good laugh as we trip ourselves up making too many of the same blind mistakes over and over again!
