Jack Flash 13 Posted January 1, 2007 For goodness sake, will someone tell our Manager, and Mr Hunter, that Zonal Marking is not working. Already today we have conceded two more from Set Plays, the first taking the initiative away from us. Good old fashioned Man Marking needs to be adopted without delay! SM 0 Posted January 1, 2007 totaly agree JF zonal marking is a continental style as set pieces don''t really get used in there games because it is mostly build up play and most free kicks get passed square. you may be able to get away with zonal marking in the premiership as it is not as rough as the championship, but when you have strapping 6''''4'' centre backs attacking your area you are marking they usually beat you to the ball. grant please put man marking into action immediately. 7rew 0 Posted January 1, 2007 I don''t blame zonal marking per say, it can work. Man on Man is better in my opinion however. The fact that the team practice defending free kicks that are taken by our free kick takers must have some impact. They will be good at defending set plays in training since the ball will be delivered in by robinson, safri, hux or earnie none of whom are likely to produce a good free kick regularly to practice against. Bacon Roll 0 Posted January 1, 2007 as Andy Gray so regularly tells us when talking about Liverpool, "why mark space, space has never scored from a corner"!
ZLF 274 Posted January 1, 2007 Like anything the system is designed to work; it only failures when the manual input is inadequate. As a system it is phenomenally successful, but only if the players are clear what they are meant to be doing and work as a team. How many people moaning about todays goals have actually seen them? We have looked solid over the last couple of games.
Attack Barclay 2nd Half 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Its not this manager, Worthington persisted with it - drove me nuts.... It enables attacking teams to control possession and gain confidence.

We have conceded far too many goals from crosses in and around the 6 yard box. It seemed to me that Lee Camp intercepted more crosses in the Leicester game than Gally has all season. Syteanric 1 Posted January 2, 2007 Zonal marking works in europe due to the defensive nature of teams from the continent... it also has its place in England.. against inferior Opposition id wager.... man 2 man still remains the way to go.jas :)
Attack Barclay 2nd Half 0 Posted January 3, 2007 No worse than Green IMO.... hopeless again at Reading on Saturday with corners / crosses.I''m convinced he has an eyesight problem.... too many long shots found their mark also
