Regime Change 0 Posted December 12, 2006 I think Sutton would make a great signing but I doubt he would want give up playing the Premier League for the Championship. I also doubt that the Board would want to sign anybody on £20,000+ a week.

At least, that''s what we were told in the summer on these boards, anyway...
Hucka Hucka Huckerby 0 Posted December 12, 2006 The chance to sign him was there in the summer. That chance has now passed & it''s just one more decision on the list of blunders made by my beloved club!

Meanwhile (although not directly in response) Worthy said he was looking for younger players than Sutton.
Citizen Journalist Foghorn 0 Posted December 12, 2006 The club never found out because he was past it according to the manager whom put us in this mess. As for Golf playing brothers - actually it was Chris Sutton who said he wanted to play here. As it is WHY do we need him? We are doing fine thanks very much!! lol As for he was OK.... He got an assist, won innumerable headers and almost scored when he hit the underside of the bar. I get the impression Villa fans are happy we turned him down!Anyway if he was going to be on £10,000 a week thats only £2000 a week more than we pay Peter Thorne!!But Suton is to old, was never very good, too injury prone, look how poor he was at Birmingham.... What a joke.
Citizen Journalist Foghorn 0 Posted December 12, 2006 And let me add Munby said he would like to see Sutton here but the previous manager was not interested.

Pete Raven 276 Posted December 12, 2006 The flip side to this, of course, is that had we signed Sutton would we have also signed November''s player of the month Dion Dublin...

Dion has been a sensation. Imagine if we had signed both though, we could have had a forward line with a combined age of 327!!

allways travelling 0 Posted December 12, 2006 Chris sutton was one of the best players to have pulled on the canary shirt and could still do a great job up front with earnie. To get him here as mentioned before on a pay as you play deal would be brilliant. You can see why o neil soon snapped him up.
Ark 0 Posted December 12, 2006
This and other imponderable questions such as why are we discussing Sutton again will surely be answered in my fortune cookie tonight...
I think it''s worth bringing back up for this reason... If Lernerloosens the purse strings at Villa in January - a definite possibility- and O''Neill brings in a couple of new strikers, Sutton could well beout of the side. In this situation, a swoop from PG might be seriouslyconsidered if Sutton''s main desire is to get first team football... Andwould O''Neill seriously turn down a transfer request from Sutton givenboth of their connections with Norwich?Sounds complicated, but given a few new signings at Villa, the rest might just fall into place.
