RUBBISH

Recommended Posts

Total and utter rubbish. Please no more Hughes. We can not beat Hull, concede in the 93rd minute....pathetic.  Does any one disagree?

I am so fed up, what has gone wrong, how can our defence concede against Hull? They are so poor but were made to look half decent today.  We will finish mid table. Its just so depressing not least as the football we are playing is dull, predictable and unadventurous. When we lose we lose looking like a leauge 1 side at best, when we win its only just by a very average championship looking side.  Sadly the reality is that is what we are.

Onwards and upwards

To be honest St John maybe we have to expect this.

The Worthy era was a long one and without Ashton, Crouch, McKenzie, Green, Edworthy, Francis, Mackay, Svensson, Bentley and Iwan we are left with a despairing Earny, ageing Huckerby, crocked Croft, out-of-favour Safri and the dregs. It will take a while for Grant to clear out what he sees as the deadwood and then bring in the players he wants.

Mid table mediocrity is exactly what we are and exactly what we should expect.

The stench of a rotting regime can take a time to evaporate fully and after two transfer windows we shall be able to tell whether we can bear the odour of Peter Grant''s City squad. Let''s just pray that in the meantime he convinces Earnshaw to be as patient has he is and we need to be.

My summary of todays performance

Defence   6

The good news?  They were the best part of the team today

The bad?  Despite the return of  ''the defensive messiah'' in place of Doc we were still run ragged at the back by a Hull side rightly at the bottom end of the table.  We were lucky to still be in the game with the post and Gallacher again showing he is a good shot stopper but has no command of his own 6 yard box let alone penalty area.

We were second to everyball and lack authority in the air.  Dublin MOTM? He was not poor but he was not good either,  he is yesterdays man and we are better using Spillane or Doc.  There was no so called leadershio in display either and had we conceeded that goal with doc in the middle doc would rightly have been catsigated - will Dion?    He wasnt even the best defender on the day - which was probably Colin.

Midfield - 5

Another no show.  We reshuffle the pack and put our most potent player in his most impotent position.  We MUST learn to play to our strengths - and the only one we have is Hux.   Eagle looked like the player he is;   a young boy with some talent;  he was too lightweight in the challenge and conceeded the ball too easily.   He did put in the best cross of the game though for the Earnie chance at the end of the first half.   Robbo and Etuhu did player better than last week - but that does not mean they were good.  We had three players against Tahn and lost out to 2 boys,  no surprise they were second best again today when there was only a pair.  There was no passion, committment, or desire to want the ball or even prove last week was a one off.

Hux is not a midfielder and we have to stop playing hum as one - until then we will continue to lose the midfield battle - the only saving grace for the midfielders were the pair in front of them

Strikers - 4

The were appalling.  Poor touch, non existent movement and no interlinking play.   Whatever WLY (is he turning into Mullers - who ate all the pies??) tried didnt come off but at least he made an attempt or two (no more mind) at a pass,  Earnie had the touch of my left foot - which is only any good for standing on. But for his goal Earnie was the worst man on the pitch and woudl have got a 3 from me.  How many times did the pair of them go to control the ball only for it to bounce 5/6 yards away and lose possession  - shocking.  And this was not one of those games of where was the service - the ball got to the pair of them but only once did either of them show any committment - for the goal.  McV committed for the header (an assist!) and for once Earnie was moving - and poor Boaz Myhill was beaten despite not having to make a decent save all game (Earnies effort from Eagle excellent cross showed when he needs 7 efforts for each goal this season).  Our best striker - easily Thorne - thats how bad the game was;  he was a candidate for man of the match despite doing nothing but win a few flick ons...  No - he should not start the next game either as he was only worth 6+ but he was better than either partner.

Overall?

There was no passion out there today,  too many players were disinterested (WLY, Earnie, Etuhu) simply not good enough (Hughes, Eagle (yet in his case)) or only showed passion when arguing about a decision (Hux).  The simple parts of the games, movement, understanding of what each others role in the game is and how to pass successfully were fundamentally missing for 90 mins.

It was clear we were again losing the midfield battle - at half time I would have changed to a three man midfield - dropping Eagle for Safri and playing WLY behind the

We have to build our best team around our best players in their best position - if Hux is to be in the midfield he has to be on the left and use even Hughes as a stop gap - todays formation meant a weakened midfield yet lost Hux creative spark.

PG still seems to be tinkering with players to see how we can best be set up - the same problem worthy had - identifying his best 11 in their best formation;  PGs only consolation is that he is playing with someone elses tool kit and still find out each tools limitations.  However he has to recognise where the problems are and address them quickly in Jan - otherwise he is on a hiding to nothing.

Sadly that what was only display today - not players - but tools.

Rant over - apologies

I would agree with much of the above, however there has been some fine margins that we have been on the wrong end of so far this season.

By my calculations we have lost 7 points now this season in conceding injury time goals, (Hull (h),Q.P.R (a),Southend (a), Palace (h))

These points are the difference between us being in mid-table and 3/4th in the league.

I don''t beleive that we are any worse than those sides currently occupying those positions, it''s just that they probably don''t have injury time tales to tell as the above.

I don''t think its too late for this season but we just can''t throw any more points away like that.

why the fXXk are you laying into hughes for? he was only on for 10 mins for gods sake. try channeling your comments into the rest of the team who were on for 80/90 mins and didn''t perform. if you were one of those so called supporters who booed hughes when he came on you should be ashamed of yourselves. yes hes not the best player to pull on the shirt but at least he gives his all unlike some of the players today.
