BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted November 22, 2006 ...........if City beat Hull on Saturday we will have collected 16 points from 8 matches under Perter Grant. That is 2 points per match, which is automatic promotion form in anybody''s book. And if we beat Leicester on Saturday, then.........................Good luck Peter Grant.[D]OTBC. Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,223 Posted November 22, 2006 Agreed, but we need to be averaging two points a game over the whole season rather than 8 games.

ZLF 335 Posted November 22, 2006 Agreed bly bly... We are in danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water. Progress has been made in 6 short weeks with exactly the same personnel as the previous manager, and sunday was more about fans overexpectation of a result over real assessment of the current position of this squad. I and many others have predicted that there would be more stoke like performances because of the state of teh squad and the confidence being fragile. Small decision of Dion v Doc are relatively incidental and if the team balance is that fragile then the squad is far worse than we all know and we are relegation fodder - and that is not the case. Dion is history - Doc with confidence can do us a longer term job.The blame is now landing at the boards feet yet I cant see what more they could have done during these last 6 weeks?? Loan players have been brought in and there is nothing to suggest we will go through Jan without strengthening the squad further. Yes they could have sacked nigel earlier - but even though I actively campaigned for his early dismissal there were good reasons why the board waited until they did to remove him, even if I disgareed with them; the timing of that decision is always a matter of opinion and one that was always going to disappoint the majority whichever way it was made. Everything else around lack of ambition/transfer funds is pure speculation. We do not and will not know how much is in the transfer kitty. There isnt much more we can do as fans short of raising the funds to buy out the current owners - and I cant afford that and without having additional cash to put into the club on top of the share price what is the point? We can only have faith, but not blind faith and we should be pushing the board to show some ambition and strengthen the squad come jan, but realistically even getting 3 players in will be very difficult - business is not generally transacted to that extent in Jan. The manager seems to have used the time well to get to know a new set of staff, coaching and playing, allowing him to make signings based on first hand experienced of on pitch as well as training field efforts. He has shown that this squad is capable of being competetive in this league (despite their clear shortfall they have beaten cardiff, brum and teh baggies who will be there or there about come April) but also shown that it is too small to sustain that challenge - hence the need to boost the squad.I am no apologist for the board and they are far from perfect; but unlike the call for sacking the manager there main problem is around viable replacements; players and managers can be changed at will, but tej number of people wanting to INVEST in , and not just own, a football club for the true benefits of fans are few and far between. I do not know whether MWJ and DS have that true altruist view - but then again there isnt a club in the country with that sort of manager. Find me a viable alternative, not just theoretical idealism, and I will support these calls, not before. The team needs us - if they can beat cardiff brum and wba we ARE moving in the right direction - the board deserves our patience until late Jan at the latest... Cluck 0 Posted November 22, 2006 20 odd million squid in debt Zipper.......the ''kitty'' will only be what the bank will lend us...or what we get from selling Huckerby and Earnshaw. The concerns shown by the various so called ''neggies'' (who I prefer to call realists)...goes back way beyond the past 6 weeks....but was conveniently buried under the Worthington out protests. Now he has gone....the dust is settling and the Board are being asked serious questions at last......

Its a disgrace i tell you!! What the h**l did you expect from the guy? he has the same players to work with that almost got us into the relegation zone this season. IT WILL TAKE TIME for him to get the new personel in place to make it HIS TEAM, then you are entitled to judge him, And as for the Get Delia out brigade? well the way I see it is that if someone out there offered enough money she would go. As it is, she and her husband are still the majority shareholders and are part of the Board running this club. There is no point shouting for her to go if there is not someone banging the door down to take the club over.
ZLF 335 Posted November 23, 2006 Yes we are £20m is debt - but what we dont know is what the current cash situation is and that will form the basis of our transfer fund. We do have one and I am reliably informed that it runs well into 7 figures - what we need to see though is that being spent well; which cant be done between transfer windows.Yes the board may have sacked Worthy sooner, but everything about giving or lack of cash for the squad is pure speculation. Since Worthy has been sacked we cannot spend our cash - Jan is the time to see real squad progress. I do not expect to see 4-6 signings but if we dont see 2/3 with one significant fee''d signing then I agree that the ambition is not matching the prudence, especially if we are close to the play offs (8th).Pressing the board now can only create extra player unrest - as grant says this squad can get promotion if they perform, give them support and a calmer atmosphere until Jan - if no signings materialise then I am all for some more unrest. This is our second season of opportunity and losing it now would be a disaster requiring serious accounting for at board level.
