Bogbrush 0 Posted November 23, 2006 Over the years we seem to have let go or missed out on some excellent players. Danny Haynes is perhaps the most topical. Although I was never aware of him being at Norwich he does look a great prospsect in the Defoe style and I can''t see him being at Ipswich too much longer. However, for me the player that I really regret missing out on is Dean Windass. A tenacious, goal scoring midfielder, I see that he is still scoring goals now but the main reason I was sorry that we didn''t buy him is that , as I remember it, he was the player our then manager, Martin O''Neill, wanted to bring in but Robert Chase refused on the grounds that we didn''t have the money. The rest is history, the miffed O''Neill then met with the Chairman of Leicester (as rumour has it) during the match when we drew 2-2 and shortly after joined them as their manager. How different things might have been if Chase had found the money, brought Windass in and O''Neill stayed on as manager !!
Bovril 232 Posted November 23, 2006 danny haynes has taken over from robbie savage as my new favourate player to ''dislike'' for want of a better word..... he doesnt actually seem to score that often yet ALWAYS scores against us what ever level he''s playing at, i was actually very surprised that he didnt start for them on that fateful day and those were actually his first goals of the seasonas for missing out on players its always gonna happen unfortunately, but if u look at it this way missing out on clinton morrison and david cotteril both £2mill price tage, does''nt seem that bad and we did acutally manage to get earnshaw and ashton which i was surprised at
Bernard Futter 0 Posted November 23, 2006 I think that you''ll find that Chase felt Windass''s potential sell on value was not great as he was then in his late 20s.Ironic, when you think that he is still a prolific goalscorer all these years later and I believe was even sought by Wigan in the summer!Whilst we''re on the subject of tragic missed signings, Kevin Hector was also in that category when he was at Bradford PA before he moved to Derby... [/quote]Yes Baron its all very well as you say missing out on players but what about giving one away ? Danny Crowe spings to my mind , the boy will be worth millions in a few years time , O.K. he may have been cocky on the training field , he may have taken the p**s out of worthy but any good manager "cocks a deaf one " any mouthy one soons get sick of that as no one listen''sto him. P-tear griffin 0 Posted November 24, 2006 This is just a post to clear up the confusion of Danny Haynes. he never played for norwich although was on trial here when he was told he wouldn''t be kept at the addicts. in stead of making the (correct) choice to come to norwich he went to ipswich. these things happen but if you look at it we have also benerfitted in this way before like with cave-brown. besides hes not really all that its just that out defense aint up to much i''m afraid. 0King Juan of SpainddMMyyyy0Falseen-USTrue 0 Posted November 24, 2006 Danny Crow bla blah blah. Honestly, if he was that good he would have been picked up by now. Get over him.

Taxing 0 Posted November 24, 2006 I''m not sure that Danny Crow is crap. He seems to have an eye for goal and it was odd that NW let him go when our squad was already pretty thin. However, having seen Crow on one of the Ron Atkinson/Peterborough programmes I can understand that NW couldn''t get on with him....... although it seemed there were plenty of players that upset NW''s sensibilities, I think that understandably Crow really did stick in his craw ! Anyway, casting back some years, I never understood why John Fashanu was sold. He had scored goals "for fun" in the reserves but was sold to Gillingham ( I think ?) for £50K. Then there was Ade Akinbiyi. He and Cureton (?) were always scoring goals for the reserves and I remember him coming on for the last 10 mins at Carrow Rd against Bayern Munich. Pete Raven 276 Posted November 24, 2006 3 goals in 50 league appearances for Panicbuy/Passhimby/Akinbiyi was enough to convince everyone he wasn''t for us...
Cluck 0 Posted November 24, 2006 I guess every club lets decent prospects through the net....Ian Crook from Spurs being a classic example. Some develop later than others while others shine early on and fade. Have we actually ever let a major star go? I guess Dion Dublin and John Fashanu are two reasonable examples.
