charlies dad 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Over 1100 people turned out on a pleasant evening to watch the reserves take on Luton. And they were rewarded with a terrific performance. In the best 2nd string display since beating Aresenal 2-1 three years ago regulars were treated to an excellent game. Luton started strongly, and looked sharp and quick, and could call upon £500,000 Adam Boyd up front, as well as acouple of others with lots of experience. But, buoyed by the return of Spillane and the Jarvis brothers, City turned on the style. The first goal was a peach, set in motion by a sublime turn and surge upfield by the electric smart, a slide rule through ball and good finish by Martin - 1-0. the excellent Spillane scored the second, netting a rebound after a scramble in the area. The thord was all Martins, barging past 2 defenders before thumping home an angle drive. The striker was then hacked down by a Luton player which slowed himn down somewhat for the remainder of the game. Half time 3-0. In an entertaining 2nd half, Luton attempted to stem the tide, and aided by the outstanding form of the keeper, did hold out until late on. When Smart waltzed round his full back and crashed a stunnning shot across the keeper. Spillane, Eagle, Martin, Lewis, Rossi Jarvis and Smart played with real verve and put a smile on 1100 faces last night. Give the reserves a go - you would ceertainly enjoy it if they play like this! Gary 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Was a thoroughly entertaining evening. Haven''t been to a reserve game for a while but we passed the ball about well (even though it was only Luton) and there looks like there are players there who could have a good future. Kathy 733 Posted October 19, 2006 The feel good factor is obviously perculating down through the whole club. Long may it continue. I have a feeling that teams like Burnley and Plymouth will look back and think that they played us at the right time.
