FatboySlimfast 0 Posted December 15, 2003 Svensson from charlton was all set to be unveiled at the press conference but for some unknown reason failed to turn up. Nobody at the club has been able to contact him and the blame has been put on an ongoing vodafone networking problem in the city. However, he is now expected to be unveiled later on in the week at another press conference.
Snake Pit Rebel 0 Posted December 15, 2003 I seriously hope that this is a wind up?I have never really rated this guy..How the hell could you replace Hucks with Svensson?Come on get real!!
a1canary 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Sources please - is this true? Not sure about Svensson but he''s not unlike Huckerby - not in the way he plays but in the fact that his record in Div 1 (Palace and Portsmouth) was excellent but he never quite made the grade in the Prem. jb 0 Posted December 16, 2003 He''s terrible and no replacement for Crouch.Pray he NEVER turns up.
MP3 0 Posted December 16, 2003 His style of play is slightly different to that of Crouch and when he was on loan at Derby earlier in the season he actually scored quite a few, so as long as the financial gamble isnt too great it has potential to be a good signing. First Wizard 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Just been to the club official site Big Dave, they have confirmed our bid has been accepted by Charlton, its just personal terms now, not at the expense of Hucks I hope.
a1canary 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Well believe it now - it''s on the official site!He was good at Pompey from what i remember. But this is all a bit mad. Surely we can''t afford all of these players? Where has the money suddenly come from? 325k initially for Leon, 725k for Huckerby, maybe 250k for Svensson - that''s over 1 and a quarter million.Do we think they are cover for each other? If one doesn''t come the other will maybe? If Huckerby''s remaining contract becomes a sticking point we can''t win - because WBA can just offer Man C more to pay it off. I don''t think Hucks is gonna make it somehow, much as i want to believe it. :(
Saint Canary 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Oh dear! I have very little idea of how well he links up play, or holds the ball up and he may well be very good at it BUT he has a career average of a goal every 8 games and if you look at his Charlton Stats it close to 1 in 11. I would rather go hunting in the lower leagues than bring in someone like Svensson
Mook 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Give him a chance. Although you may know your stuff you are not a footy manager, and Nigel appears to know best. Although he may not be brilliant, he may have what it takes to give us a boost. I was checking our strike force this morning, it''s not good reading.Roberts - can''t play all the time due to his ageJarvis - can''t play all the time due to his ageMcVeigh - We seem to need him on the leftNotman - retiredNielsen - in DenmarkAbbey - I think that''s it for him due to his injuryRivers - clutching at straws, definitely a midfielderThat leaves ONLY MCKENZIE!! So, I think a premiership player would be a good boost for our squad in a tough league.

Alan 0 Posted December 16, 2003 He''s a strange choice. The amount spent on Svensson could be the extra needed for Huckerby to sign. Svensson has not set the world alight yet and at 29 he''s not going to either. He''s a journeyman who would be OK in divison 1 without being anything special. If Norwich get to the Premiership he would be surplus to requiremnts just as he is at Charlton, who want to offload him to get down the wage bill.
Anderz 0 Posted December 16, 2003 I''m a little bit confused about the deals on the table as well... Perhaps the board have injected some of their own funds into the club and will reveal this after the deal/s have been completed, so as to cover any possibility''s of Man City and Charlton upping their price. Similairly, perhaps the recent share issue has been wholly more successful than has been reported, for the very same reason...All in all though, its exciting times for us City fans, especially since its been a while since we had speculation about possible new players to get excitied about. chicken 0 Posted December 16, 2003 I would disagree with you there buddy. West Brom have just forked out another £1 million for Geoff "plays like a horse"field, I doubt very much that they have a lot more to gamble away on in the way of money. Plus they must know that they are not going to be first choice. I would put them last out of the three that it have been made public. Ofcourse we dont know it but there could be other teams that would go for him or are going for him. I think that it will be dragged out by Man C as long as they can to see if any more interest builds up for him in the Prem.
Carles Puyols Hair 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Hasn''t been as interesting a day as today at City for quite a long time, has there? Svensson looks like a bad call to me. I can understand that the board don''t want to put all their eggs (footballs?) in one basket but if they genuinely think that Huckerby is a possibility then Svensson would hopefully be surplus to requirements next year, (as someone else has already mentioned). It could be that the board don''t really believe that they are going to get Huckerby but they had to make the gesture anyway. I too, am worried about where all this money is going to come from, those financial figures were not pretty reading. However, it could be the sign of a board ready to gamble a bit in the name of ambition. What do you reckon? Let''s look at the rival bids, West Brom, have, as just mentioned, spent a big wedge on Horsfield but do have the fact they they are almost certainly going to be top 2 this season. Norwich and Wigan don''t have that... yet. Wigan are being written off by everyone on this messageboard but they do have a great deal more financial backing at the moment and if they could offer Huckerby a chunk more than we could offer then what would you do? I know he''s had a fantastic time here, loves Norfolk etc, (and believe me I really hope this counts something for him), but when you''re a professional with probably another 4 years of earning left in you it''s going to be a difficult choice for him. I reckon that people shouldn''t get their hopes up yet that Huckerby is coming back. That doesn''t, of course mean that I''m not doing just that! It''s going to be an interesting week...
