Luck be a City Fan!!

Recommended Posts

They say you need it to go up and the lady has sure visited us on a number of occasions throughout the season. Some of out lucky moments for me are:

1) The sequence of events from failed sigings over the summer, to THOSE loan signings, to THAT permanent signing!
2) A virtually injury free year.
3) Malky''s 89th minuter v Palace.
4) WLY''s outrageous 87th minute deflected 30 yarder for the first part of our Reading double.
5) Iwan''s missed but bizarrely retaken penalty, shortly followed by Mullers 93rd minute winner for the 10 man win v Derby.
6) An on fire Defoe and Connolly BOTH suspended v W Ham.
7) The woodwork making playin for City v the binners before Malky blew ''em away!
8) The suspension of the Sunderland game which will almost certainly now be a dead game when it goes ahead - them in the p/offs and us already up.
9) The binners choosing just the right opposition to beat at just the right time to take us to the brink of the promised land.
10) Mr Barry!! We should get a case of champagne delivered to him!!

Any more?

a1, your mention of point 2 re: injuries has been remarked upon by some of the Baggies fans on their mb this past week. In a thread entitled ''Norwich and injuries'', someone asked the question ''do they get any?''. The reply was ''no'', although a City fan expanded on this by saying that in past seasons we have had more than our fair share for a smallish squad, but that this year things have more than gone our way in this department. I think this has had a HUGE part to play in our success overall, and all your other points are also valid.

What others also need to realise sus is that the lack of injuries isn''t only down to extraordinary luck. It''s down to our training, coaching and physio methods and above all, our fitness. As well as keeping us injury free, our fitness has been the decisive factor for us in this final run in where many squads are seriously beginning to tire. Our fitness has told in the second halves in many games and particularly recently (Burnley springs to mind), when teams just haven''t been able to keep up with our workrate in the final 20 minutes.

(Unfortunately, this is the reason we have lost Rivers - he just hasn''t been able to stay with the team''s general fitness levels since the day he arrived, highlighted when he said something along the lines of "blimey, we never had to work this hard at Crewe!")

Lucky with injuries is an understatement! Where would we have been had we not had our only serious injury of the season?

Had Abbey not been injured we would have persevered with Abbey/Roberts/McVeigh strike force that we had seen for the two previous seasons making for a miserable season instead of the dreamland that we have all suffered since the arrival of Hux et al!

How fairly fate has shined on us this season!
