koimatsuba 0 Posted August 21, 2006 Hi all.Well, Derby was a average game again, for me its starting to sum up our season already. Great At HOME, average AWAY (again!). Unless we buy a TALL GOOD well known forward with the 2million we will have (approx) then we will finish around 4-6th in the league. With a tall striker then maybe 3rd-1st. It coould make all the difference!Cheers All

passdinho 0 Posted August 21, 2006 Koimatsuba - surely a big striker would do little more than encourage the long ball football that has led to Norwich''s mini-demise in the last 2 years. What, might I ask, is wrong with team now? The defense is generally solid, which is all one may expect in the Championship. Except Doherty, the whole team is capable, and more importantly committed, to playing good football, with short passes from defense to midfield. Also, having one quality striker, Norwich''s ''affliction'' now, means that they must play five across the midfield. This suits Norwich greatly, as Huckerby has license to goal-hang, safe in the knowldge that Robinson will cover him. It also gives Safri and Etuhu much more freedom to push forward and influence the game. Finally, it makes the two wingers hug the touchlines, dragging the full-backs out of position and opening channels for Earnshaw to work in. A big striker will make these quality wingers redundant as we''ll only see Doherty and Shackell whacking the ball up in the air all game. Even Doherty is bright enough to realise he can''t do this with Earnshaw ( though bless Gary, he still keeps trying . . .)
JJ 0 Posted August 21, 2006 If (when) Leon goes then we are going to be desperately thin on the ground (and not just up front). I just hope Worthy and the board are pulling out the stops because time is running out. Its all very well going on about patience but we have signed ONE player since the end of last season and the thought of more expensive loan flops after the deadline don''t fill me with joy.We have the potential to do well this season. If we leave it too late to strengthen the squad then our chances of the top six are going to be very slim.

Now that Hunter is here It doesn''t necissarily mean we will opt to play hoof ball, tall players do have feet too. But we do need a plan B!! When teams stop us playing football we are going to be ***ed when Earnie fails to get his head or chest on the ball & hold play up. A big man is a neccessity! Canary02 0 Posted August 22, 2006 I agree. We do need a target man to give us another option, but we also need another striker as well if McKenzie goes. We had the smallest squad in the Premeirship two years ago, a small squad last year, and since then we''ve let Charlton, Ward, Green and pretty soon McKenzie go, with only one replacement. All the arguments about how difficult it is to get players in can''t disguise the fact that we don''t have sufficient numbers to make a promotion challenge unless we get virtually no injuries all season. Saint Canary 0 Posted August 22, 2006 I agree you need a big striker in this league. When we got promoted we had Svennson, Roberts and Crouch. Sunderland had Kyle. Reading had Kitson and Doyle last year. It''s not about playing hoofball, it''s about variation of tactics and not being one dimensional. Even Chelsea and Man Utd (when the were winning the league every year) had the option of a big striker to play direct to. We all want to see pretty football but at times during the season we are going to have win "ugly" to get promoted. Sometimes when you can''t pick the lock, you just need someone to kick the door down!
Chunky! 0 Posted August 22, 2006 QUICK! We''ve got money, lets buy someone, tall, fat and slow and call them a target man!I''d rather we bought someone we actually feel will improve the team, we''ve got plenty of over-priced squad players.Chris

Especially when your defense needs to clear it long you need someone up there tall and strong to hold the ball up and give the team time to regroup and push up. We really need someone who will compliment Earnie''s style of play but ultimately alot taller.
Gary 0 Posted August 22, 2006 A tall target man doesn''t mean that we have to play long ball, it should mean we have an option to to make us less predictable. There will be games when we need to vary out tactics and sometimes a big man will help with that. Now we are playing with a winger a good target man who can head a ball would have a field day with the service Crofty is putting in
Mello Yello 2,265 Posted August 22, 2006 Cheerio, to signing anyone on deadline day.........We don''t need anybody new, we have the yoofy hoofy squadlets. Now, what else can we discuss?
