Green Cash + Left Over Transfer Cash....

Recommended Posts

Heres how I would spend the Green money (plus the board might want to inject a few quid!!!)

David Vaughan can play left back, left mid and centre mid according to the Crewe website.  By my reckoning thats cover for Drury, Huckerby and any of the current midfield trio.  Just the sort of versatility we need.

If we add Billy Jones to the mix thats cover any where across the back four plus he can play as an anchor type defensive mid.

And again if we could also get Greg Halford thats right back (cover for Colin), right mid (cover for croft) and striker.  The boy is apparantly 6ft 4" so he would certainly come in the potential target man bracket!!!

They are all young, all hungry and all highly rated.  I think we should push the boat out and grab all three.  Lets do a Spurs and sign loads of quality youngsters now, in 3-4 seasons time we will reap the rewards either in cash by selling them to big clubs, or by league position when they all reach there potential.

We can use the loan market for goalkeeper cover.  Forget Sutton, forget Anderton lets build for the future......Youngsters are the way forward especially with youth specialist Martin Hunter at the club....

Jimmy, I''m 100% in agreement with your sentiments. The only caution I would add is that it is desirable to mix that approach of incoming youth with some experience, which we already have some players qualified in that category.

I know this is idle dreaming that a fan of any club can do but, as I watched the England Under 21 match yesterday, I could not help but visualise those young talents in yellow shirts. And even if we were trying to attract/develop some talent a tier or so below this level, how much more invigorating and inspirational for fans to applaud their efforts ( mistakes notwithstanding ) compared to settling for plodders who either never will make the grade or are coasting on past glories.

You are right, it makes no sense trying to keep an unhappy player at the club.  It''s a squad game these days and it sounds like Mackenzie doesn''t want to settle for being just a squad player.

Kuqi would be good, I like battering ram type strikers especially at this level.

In all seriousness though, who is going to pay top dollar for Mackenzie?  I think we stand a better chance of offering him plus cash to say Colchester or Southend for Halford/Eastwood.

By 31st August, we might have the cash for one of them.

* Speculation alert * * Speculation alert * * Speculation alert *

Chances are the money for green will be staggered.  Mr Munbys'' suggestion that we could have afforded Steve Howard, coupled with Worthingtons'' "we spent most of the budget on Lee Croft" leaves me guessing at a figure of 300k before the money for Green.

Assuming we get 1 million up front, that would leave us with a transfer budget for August of 1.3 million ?

All figures are wildly speculative.  price of players may go up and up as Derby become involved in a bidding war.

What about...

David Vaughan + Billy Jones - Combined bid 2 - 2.5m....Could tempt crewe, they are skint after all

Greg Halford - 500k + Leon Mackenzie

Just a thought, championship manager thinking and real life football don''t really mix do they. Still we can all dream can''t we.....

Jimmy well said ! I like all your contribution today, it has a speculate to accumulate ring to it and it will make for a better climb to the prem in a couple of years time.  It will reduce this seasons pressure and allow for the coaching staff to groom the squad properly and get them playing sensible competitive football again.  Although I would like us to be in the prem with the riches that are there for taking.  I still think that we are still jumping the gun to aim for it at this moment, and it may lead to a similar dissapointment as last time. OTBC!!

Kuqi.....shut up!

The bloke''s a joke, I''d rather bring some youth through, or at least give Jarvis a few games than sign that bucket of lard.

As a post stated earlier, youth is the key, get a few promising youngsters in, build for the future, after all we have a coach on our hands who''s very highly rated where young talented footballers are concerned.

Don''t forget the Doncaster factor. For every fee paid , double it. For every fee recieved, halve it.

so we''ve probably got £1 to spend so brace yourself for 2 mediocre midfielders coming this way.

Mind you if these youngsters are really that hungry, Delia might be interested in splashing out, as they will undoubtedly spend their wages on he fantastic pies and bolster the catering income.

Speculate to accumalate.......   Croft has already proved that if he leaves it will be for more than 700K,  purchasing the right type of player is very important.  Even Dickson Etuhu is proving he could be worth more than the money paid for him.  Colin is looking alrite..  certainly a lot better than last season.  I am yet to be convinced by Hughes yet however.

The team are looking good, and I agree that we need to look for "investments" rather than tried, tested, and overpriced, but it''s a bit unfair to criticise Hughes, he hasn''t played a minute yet this season.

" Chances are the money for green will be staggered. "

Then by that reasoning any player we sign should be paid for on the

same basis. The balance is in bringing in players for a longer term

when we can''t be certain which division we will be in or chucking

whatever we have, and whoever it takes, to batter our way into the

Premiership.

Unfortunately the club will have to take somekind of line in between.

Should that not be "So we''ve" rather than "so we''ve" FTFW? [:p]

I was just thinking hypothetically.  Mackenzie wants to leave, let him leave.  Forcing a player to stay when he doesn''t want to could potentially be damaging to the club and morale in general.

Top quality proven players are expensive.  If you look back NCFC have historically done very well with young players by bringing them through (when they are ready).  Ashton, Eadie, Bellamy, Green, Sutton etc. etc. have all been sold on at profit eventually.

I personally don''t see the risk in buying youngsters with great potential, buy them for a reasonable price, develop their talent and sell them for an inflated price ala dean ashton, its the only forward for us.  And when we have saved the profits up buy a quality proven player ala Rob Earnshaw.

By doing things this way the future of Norwich is secured and eventually we will have a decent squad capable fo doing something.
