Bernard Futter 0 Posted August 2, 2006 So you have ''seen bits'' of Kevin Keelan. In other words you never actually saw him play.So totally meaningless for you to try and make a qualitative judgement.I have seen all City goalkeepers going back to Ken Oxford in the early 50s and Kevin Keelan was the best of the lot - no contest. (I would have put Sandy Kennon ahead of Woods also.)The other non-negotiable position is centre forward where Ronald Tudor Davies is numero one.I''ll happily debate all other positions but these two are non negotiable! Carrow89 78 Posted August 2, 2006 Absolutely agree about Keelan. Not too sure if his ''conversations'' with Alan Black would be acceptable at the sanitised Carrow Road we now have.On a slightly different tack I would select Jim Bone, Ken Foggo and Trevor Hocky for their sheer entertainment and crowd pleasing abilities.Sadly, all very much missed nowadays

There is a third non negotiable. How SeamusBarkus can (rightly) include Keelan and Forbes but not include their team mate, the incomparable Martin Peters mystifies me. No Best City team for the last forty years is credible without Keelan, Davies and Peters. Anyone who says different wasn''t there.
Bernard Futter 0 Posted August 3, 2006 Er, yes CC agreed - Peters should be in the ultra elite category!
derwent 0 Posted August 3, 2006 We could debate this all year and still never agree. I do however agree that no City all time XI should be without Peters or Keelan, but it amazes me that O''Neil, Macdougle, Newsome, Linighan, Paddon and Reeves have not been mentioned. The list is endless, all different for their own talents and reasons, but compared to todays shower of s#''t, even Dale (one trick) Gordon looked good! Anyway, whats wrong with Andy Hughes! The best clapper that we have ever had!
Rustyboy 2 Posted August 3, 2006 I was thinking who were the best City players I’ve seen and what type of team they would make today. My favourites are below, I went for a 3-4-3 formation. Your team would depend on how old you are. My memories just got Keelan and Forbes in! I expect I have left a few out.Kevin Keelan (just pipped Gunn and Woods) Steve BruceDave WatsonDuncan Forbes Craig BellamyMartin O’NeilMartin PetersMark Barham Chris SuttonRobert FleckKevin Reeves
percyvarco 0 Posted August 3, 2006 I love these threads as the team gives an indication of the age of the poster.keelan was by far the best keeper we have ever had. Watching him drag his leg to make an extra mark from goal line to penalty spot was a joy.
gangmower 0 Posted August 3, 2006 keelan was the best goalkeeper by far in my opinion.but the best centre forward was ron davies by a mile.i have been going since
