Saint Canary 0 Posted April 27, 2006 I''m pretty sure that Worthy will be here at the start of next season. If that''s the case then I really hope that he and board go about their business in the transfer market very differently than last year.Firstly if the board really do still back him then please give him more money than the poxy amount he had last year with which to buy Hughes and Colin and some bosmans. In fairness to Worthy he didn''t even spend the money we got from the sales of Helveg and Jonson and he started the season with a very small squad.Secondly, I really don''t want to hear the same rubbish as last summer of "no-one does business until x", while teams that we are in competition with are buying players that could have been a welcome addition to our squad. Last summer Doncaster told us no deals are done until July, a week or so after Sheffield United had signed Paul Ifill. Ideally you should have all or pretty much all of you signings complete before you start the friendlies so there can be no excuses about players not "settling in" when the season kicks off. Please learn from last year!
Totally agree, StC. Things have changed drastically since the transfer window came in. It''s a free-for-all starting May 1st. We have another £6m parachute money (what happened to last year''s, by the way?), not to mention the surplus from Ashton''s transfer, so no excuses.
ZLF 335 Posted April 27, 2006 Agreed saint - and we have to get the shape of the squad right; we cant go another season without a right midfielder! or with just 4 real midfielders. And we have enough utility players now - give us some specialists!

I made the same point last year about David Moyes as you have made about Sheff Utd. I remember Moyes saying about getting his transfer work done and THEN going on holiday.........not the other bloody way round. Mark .Y.
0peteddMMyyyy0Falseen-USTrue 0 Posted April 28, 2006 I know we can''t Zipper, you know we can''t but does Worthy, probably not, be prepared for more under performing workhorses. Would a footballer (i.e. one with ability want to to work with our tactical genius, McVeigh is here on sufferance and Huckerby (well quite don''t know why he is so supportive). As for the others picking up a nice wage for not doing much at all, more of the same.
Absolutely Saint (and being someone born in southampton I don''t find it too difficult agreeing with someone from there). The Ifill thing was awful, he was a player I thought would have been a quality addition to the squad, perhaps not a player whom will impress every game like andy hughes, but a goalscoring right winger with pace. While Negative Nigel is on holiday he is snapped up for a mere 700,000!! 28(11) 9 goals from right wing this season. How much money we wasted on loans is also a big gripe.
