Soldier on 303 Posted December 3, 2024 Apologies if it’s already been mentioned. Paddy said that Thorup is eyeing up a swoop for an ex Nordsjaelland attacker that moved to Europe. Looking at the profile of player that would be it would be quite an exciting move. Does make me wonder whether we are preparing for Sainz to move next month. Appreciate we need a wide man either way though.

One of the callers came up wth four names that fitted the bill, and one of my glamorous assistants did some research: Wahid Faghir: 21 year-old 6ft striker with Stuttgart but currently playng with the second eleven in the third tier, where he has scored four goals. Andreas Schjelderup: 20-year-old all-purpose attacker signed by Benfica for a reported €10m before being loaned back to Nordsjaelland, but has scored once in three games for Benfica this season.. Conrad Harder: 20 year old forward signed by Sporting for a reported €19m with a reported €80m release clause. Three goals so far this season. Ernest Nuamah: 21 year old winger signed by Olympique Lyon for a reported €28.5m, who later scuppered a reported €19m move to Fulham by deliberately disappearing because he didn't want to leave Lyon.

Interesting- the lesser spotted inverse Jonny Rowe manoeuvre. The Ronny Jowe.
Soldier on 303 Posted December 3, 2024 So based on those fees the Benfica lad most likely? I don’t see us being keen on loans.

It might be none of those, of course! If Nuamah didn't want to leave Lyon for Fulham he probably doesn't fancy leaving Lyon for us, even though Lyon need to sell players. And Harder hardly seems likely, and not just given the size of the release clause.🤩 Schjelderup hasn't started a game for Benfica this season, but is in the match day-squad and has scored once as a sub. Faghir was playing in the Bundesliga when he was only just 18, and scored once. But his career seems to be stagnating a bit, unless Stuttgart are just bringing him along slowly, and it could be a case of us seeing unrealised potential. Capt. Pants 5,160 Posted December 4, 2024 So basically anyone we want to sign has to be 20 or 21 and not heard of? I think January signings need to be proven and can add value straight away. A player with so called potential who's released mid-season worryingly suggests they aren't much good.

Or a bargain who’s been poorly managed and we want to steal a march on anyone else coming in over the summer? I’m sure we’ve bought a couple of youngsters “early” in the past (possibly Maddison? Although he probably doesn’t fit the “mismanaged” category).

That is where we are as a club. The January window is that last place to buy proven quality for the simple reason that it comes with a massive premium we can't afford. Maybe it is Andreas Schjelderup with an idea that he can be acclimatized ahead of Sainz leaving in June?
Bristol Canary 181 Posted December 4, 2024 Yeah absolutely no way Harder is leaving Sporting on loan. He is their main back up to Gyökeres and getting a decent amount of playing time. I imagine whoever they're looking at will be a potential loan to replace Gordon & Fassnacht, depending on the player with a buy option much like the SvH transfer last year. Schjelderup & Faghir you could maybe see that being an option but I imagine the former would depend on promotion. I would have thrown Ibrahim Osman into the equation too because it didn't look like he was getting that many minutes at Feyenoord. He was a winger that Thorup moulded into a striker (beginning to see that again...). That appears to be because he has picked up an injury though that could be serious. I could have seen Brighton wanting to test him England at some point on loan.
Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,742 Posted December 4, 2024 Schjelderup has been touted as a wonderkid for a few years now. Surely he's out of our league, unless he has really gone off the boil?

Surely he's out of our league, unless he has really gone off the boil? Yeah, he hasn't managed to break into the Benfica team and make that step up from Denmark consistently yet. Looks like he has only played around 100 odd minutes for them this year after a really good season with Thorup last year. I guess they hoped it would take him to the next level/regain some confidence but doesn't look like it has worked out yet. Few similarities with Tzolis maybe. They might think another loan would do that or increase their chances of recouping the €9m they paid for him. I think it is really unlikely he ends up at Norwich though... Mainly because his best position is currently occupied by a certain Borja Sainz. Though you could argue that it meets the Knapper/Attanasio Mid-to-Long term strategy if they are getting the Sainz replacement in before he likely leaves in the summer. Very Brighton-esq. andyc24_uk 79 Posted December 5, 2024 If Schjelderup is even half the player he usually ends up becoming on Football Manager, he'd be an absolute blinder of a signing! Saying that, Feghir is maybe closer to what we really need most though, more of an out and out striker.
