McLean at CB

Recommended Posts

Is this a thing of the past now do we think? With Cordoba and Doyle we have left footed CBs and Doyle is certainly a ball playing CB which was the argument for playing Kenny there previously.

Just wondering about Nunez coming on at some point, but you really wouldn't want to take McLean or Marcondes out of the side.

Led me to wonder if McLeans days at CB are over?

"Is a midfielder playing at centreback due to an injury crisis over now that we are not in that crisis?"

Well wasn't it said by whichever manager (Wagner?) that he thought it was his best position/his future?

Well judging from the way Thorup wants to play, I would say Mclean gives him a ready made solution to the uncertainty and faffing around that goes on in defence at times. The way we give the ball away so easily at times looks amateurish and Luton could well have had at least two more goals today after poor touches from defenders. For Thorup's way of playing to work, we need good ball players in the back four.

We need a better right footed centre back option in Jan, then we can drop Duffy. That’s the problem here

He's our best midfielder so no chance of Thorup doing this.

I thought Kenny was quite poor today judging him on his usual high standards.

Lost the ball a few times 😭 n our own half, and those quarterback-esque passes were just not happening for him.

Perhaps he's a little ring rusty after his lay off, but I thought he was much better on Tuesday albeit against inferior opposition.

I'm a massive Kenny fan as you know, but he's not as good as Nuñez.

The midfield clearly needs to built around those two.

They both perform very different roles. Nunez is technically and offensively better but makes less tackles, interceptions and carries for example

2nd best.

By a margin.

Not according to Thorup but what does that bloke (and all the others) know 😅😉

Wasn't it Kenny who provided the assist for Luton's second as well?

He’s also clearly playing within himself a bit to avoid a yellow card. Pulled out of a few tackles where he could have taken the opposition player out. One more game to get through. Then he will be able to play at full throttle again.

I’d play him at wingback Lakey

I'm a big fan of Kenny at this level, it's evidently clear we are so much better with him dictating the game - however, I thought today was one of his off-days.

He was just as guilty as the rest of them of giving away possession needlessly and didn't find his man anywhere near as well as he usually does. Luckily it didn't matter today, but he's No. 3 on the team sheet for me, after Gunn and Sainz.

I think Duffy has had a brilliant season so far, yeah he made a few bad passes/mistakes today but I think that was just tired legs.

I’ve liked him, not liked him, criticized, praised.

He’s our quarterback. He makes “it” work at the end of the day.

Nunez and Kenny are simply excellent at this level with the last two games being case in point. Kenny made one or two errors today but he is one yellow away from a ban and that must be on his mind a bit.

Still, despite that he was again one of our top performers and ran the midfield well against last season PL opposition.
