Where is Faasnacht?

Recommended Posts

I thought he was fit again but he wasn't on the bench last night. Is he injured yet again or was he simply not picked? Either way, I would hope we look to offload him in Jan to free up wages, if not it will be a definite return to Switzerland in the summer when his contract is up. A player simply not suited to the championship as has no pace or power and is not amazingly tricky and skilful.

It's a long ol' season and he may well get his chances once fully fit

He's going back to Young Boys.

I didn't know how to make the about sentence sound less dodgy.

'He's going to Young Boys to play with them' definitely doesn't improve it.

'Give it six weeks and he'll be with Young Boys'

'Young Boys want him'

Nope, give up.

Seriously though, he's going back to Switzerland, all agreed. Heard this from a letting agent.

Assume we are buying in January if he goes. I personally like him but he wasn’t anything special and never looked comfortable with chalk on his boots. Face just doesn’t fit I’d imagine.

Quite an underwhelming player overall. Had a knack for being in the right place to bundle a ball in from 5 yards but if he didn't do that he didn't do anything. Far too often a complete passenger.

Maybe take Sorensen too

Sorensen is a decent utility given he can basically play anywhere in the middle of across the back 4 so gives plenty of cover as backup. Fassnacht meanwhile has a lot of competition now

Where is Fassnacht?

Unfortunately for him a question that was often asked when he was on the pitch. Just seems to be a bit of nothing player really. There never seems to be a reason why you'd want him to start him, or bring him on the pitch.

If he is back in Switzerland doesn’t it make the decision to start him ahead of Kamara on the opening day even weirder. Why sideline Kamara for a player who hasn’t started a game since and we are actively trying to offload.

Say want you want about him being underwhelming but 7 goals from midfield when he wasn’t a regular starter is far from underwhelming in my book.

Really,  so you think we didn't look more fluid when him & Forsom were replaced?

Does Sorensen play any position well though? I’m not convinced

I didn't say we didn't, I also referred to Sorensen as backup. It's a long season, you can't play your first XI every 90 minutes and Lungi is decent cover for multiple positions

I do agree, been waiting for him to develop and kick on but never really has. Still think his best performances came when he filled in it left back ironically

Fassnacht was impressive for Switzerland in the 2020 Euros but I think the injuries he suffered after that have had an effect on him. We took a gamble on him on a free transfer, hasn’t been a complete disaster but I don’t think he has much of a future here now.

Just seen he wasn’t actually a freebie. Oh well, €3 million doesn’t get you much these days!

I thought Fasi was OK. Never going to be a real difference maker but seemed to have lovely technique. Probably waited too long to make the jump out of Switzerland and suffered as a result of the mercurial rise of Rowe last season.

Makes sense to lose (probably) reasonable wages if he's 3rd/4th choice.

Doesn't work because Ipswich isn't a person.

Yep, definitely agree with Rowe being the reason Fassnacht never quite got going in the same way any striker not called Pukki was always going to struggle by not being Pukki. Took some time for Sargent to get out of his shadow and you could easily argue Idah, Hugill, Srbeny and even Rhodes all suffered.

I like Fassnacht as a player, but he's a yard of pace and power short. Good technician and a diligent player out of it, there's something Lukas Rupp-like in his willingness to chase back and fill in gaps in team shape out of possession.

We did but I think that’s more Forson who was a total passenger again. I thought in the second half players were deliberately avoiding giving him the ball with his back to goal as he always loses it.

The game was pretty much over anyway I thought Sorensen was decent on Tuesday and now looks to be fully up to speed again.

I think it was a spoof, but 'Keegan fills Schmeichel gap with Seaman' is probably my favourite.
