Really important confidence boosting result. Plymouth were awful but you can only focus on your own performance.  The WBA point looks even better now.

Simon Whaley could’ve come in last night, and we’d have still won.

That'd be fine if I said it afterwards with benefit of hindsight but many of us called it before. No wonder Thorup thinks he's the best suited player for what he wants 😉

We looked much closer to being back to our normal selves at WBA so I was confident about last night. JHT is a very good coach, the time on the training ground has been well used. We had a “blip” but it was due to the injuries and suspensions. Genuinely believe we would have taken at least 7 points from those 3 games we lost had we had even a couple of our key players who were missing  available.

Worth noting that in those games we were also forced to play Sorensen and Slimane who clearly weren't at the fitness level required in all honesty.

Yes. And we still should have beaten Cardiff. A rare error there from JHT with the subs.

JHT is developing a system of play, which means playing to each players strengths and giving them clarity about what is expected of them. He spoke last night about Sainz knowing where to be on the pitch for his chances.  The better teams will change their tactics, including in game to counteract City. Rooney is not a tactically astute manager.

Maybe we could have even got away with George Long in nets

Did you see Rooney's interview? I felt genuinely sorry for him. He didn't know what to say or where to look. I think he needs a different, er, career path; football management's not really his strength.

It is true that teams will change their tactics to cover Sainz, arguably the problem recently is that our other areas of strength have been greatly reduced. Which has allowed teams to more effectively deal with Borja.

Last night, though Plymouth were particular bad, Marcondes was a real threat, Crnac was moving well, Stacey was a good outlet, the rest were generally solid. So we asked a lot of questions of Argyle on how to stop us, which inevitably means spaces will open up.

The thing we could do with most is a genuine goal threat on the right wing.

Good for the Pilgrims to be on the receiving end of a Thanksgiving massacre for once

The original Pilgrims got on fine with the indigenous people living in Massachusetts. It was the later arrivals that caused the trouble culminating in King Philip’s War in 1675, more than 50 years after the Mayflower landed.

Sorry to be pedantic as it was a good comment 🤣

Did you see him get stitched up by Lineker and Micah during the Euros? They asked him at half time as the manager on the panel what he would be asking his team to do differently in the second half? His stuttering response could have been summarised as try harder. No tactical insight at all.

Haha, I did realise as I was typing it that I was way out of my comfort zone.

Very much appreciate being put right

It’s not really my comfort zone either but I work for a local council, which has a museum dedicated to William Penn, who founded Pennsylvania. He wasn’t one of the original Pilgrims as this was 60 years later but he was a Quaker and his settlement had very good relations with the indigenous tribes in the area that he settled in.

I did wonder if he was in goal for Plymouth.

Man am I glad I didn't make it to the game tonight... Mrs Petriix sure picked the perfect night to buy tickets for a gig that unfortunately clashed with a home game. "Nevermind" I said, "we'll probably struggle against lowly Plymouth".

In other news, Erland Cooper was excellent and almost worth missing a six goal rout for.

Ah Erland is a brilliant musician, great choice from Mrs Petriix. I watched Confidence Man tonight. I've never left one of their gigs without a broad smile on my face. So much energy - if Norwich had as much energy every match as they have every gig, we'd be established EPL by now.
