Thinking about getting the train to Bruges. That's about it so far!

If you haven't been before, you won't regret this, assuming you like pretty old buildings and beer, some cracking little cosy basement/cellar bars dotted around.

Anyone been to Edinburgh? Any recommendations apart from the obvious tourist stuff?

Any quality pubs?

Every other month for work.

Loads of awesome pubs. Bennetts Bar one of my favourites, one of those special pubs which needs protecting.

Underground city tour is fascinating.

Can't wait for my favourite half-marathon (in one of my favourite cities) to get the entries open so I can sign up and take Miss TGS there in early September, namely Polmaraton Praski in Warsaw, Poland. Missed it the last two years either due to injury or saving up to emigrate.

Although taking a German partner there might result in a diplomatic incident if we speak German to each other like we usually do. 😉

Doing similar soon. Eurostar to Brussels, likely day trip to Bruges. Train is very expensive if you don't book a bit ahead; like we didn't!

Yeah the Eurostar can be quite expensive. Considering it can hold way more passengers than a plane, you'd think it would be a bit more reasonable.

Two weeks to go before emigration. In all likelihood there will be a few days back here in late January for final finishing off of my apartment here to rent out, and to take final things with me.

Just very impatient now.

Jena, in central Germany. Spent a fair bit of time there over the course of last year as that's where Miss TGS lives. Easy for me to go there as a self-employed translator, so all I need is Internet access, whereas she'd need to take up holiday from the radiology clinic she works at.

EDIT: Might as well lob the Wiki in. Jena - Wikipedia

Nice one. Embarrassed to say, I've not heard of Jena before. Good luck with the move!

To be fair, Jena's not really the tourism hotspot and Weimar is much more like it in that regard as a former European Capital of Culture (it had to be, Weimar's impact on German history for a town of its size is unmatched), Erfurt is a bit of an undiscovered gem, but many head off either to the Thuringian Forest, Eisenach (and therefore the Wartburg castle), to a lesser extent the Kyffhäuser range or slightly out of state and hit the Harz mountains instead.

Nearest major city anyone probably has heard of is Leipzig, an hour or so to the north-east, and Dresden is a couple of hours east.

I remember Carl Zeiss Jena from the 70's. They used to play European football. Got to the cup winner's cup final

Regional leagues in Germany now. That said, the stadium has just been rebuilt. Watched a match there a few months ago, a derby match against Chemnitz with Miss TGS (not the main derby by any means, that's with Erfurt).

I have to say I am disappointed of Lakenham that this thread has not been influrated  by Mr Dack's shareholding - his love of Cambridge United and his admiration of the Swansea fans 7.5% share holding. Shame on you Pink Un messageboard 😂

Are you adopting a local team as your German team?

As this thread goes, it'll be Carl Zeiss Jena, so I'll probably start bumping this thread up on the occasional basis. Or if I sneak a few games for Fortuna Grossschwabhausen (played a couple of friendlies for the vets team already) too.

The Hjemmefrontmuseet (Resistance Museum) in Oslo was excellent when it came to Norway in World War Two and everything about Operation Weserübung.

Bodo has a lovely memorial stone to those who died in the war, I love the motto "Ingen nevnt, ingen glemt" (no-one mentioned, no-one forgotten) on that.

Hopefully the Women's European championship in Switzerland next July. Possibly followed or preceded by somewhere else....maybe Sweden?

Also England 3 or 4 times

Potentially a shít draw for getting tickets 🇮🇸 ☹

2 games in the smallest stadium to be used in the tournament, either side of a  game against the hosts.

I was in Emile-Romagne, Italy in the summer and we went to Modena to see a Balsamic Vinegar Factory and it turns out that their football club are called The Canaries and I bought an expresso cup!

This event has my name all over it. Won't be able to afford a trip like that next year as I'll be settling into Germany and getting used to being a landlord in the UK, so just a couple of weekend breaks to two of my favourite events for me, and maybe a couple of other things with Miss TGS.

But yeah, I REALLY WANT THIS MARA!!

I was toying with a Switzerland trip to watch the Lionesses, but with my family I couldn't make it work for under £2k and as we're off to Florida again August/September I can't justify it.

Will probably go for a Dutch Eurocamp again around Easter.

I'm in Lulea, Sweden in January then off to Kaunas in February. Always take my holidays in the cooler months.
