Conrad 272 Posted November 10, 2024 Just clear of the relegation places. One win in seven. Abject performances like yesterday. Team lacking confidence, or required ability? Sergeant absent until January, with no recognised replacement in the squad. I know that we may have some of our injured players back after the international break but what condition will they find the team in then? Looks like we are in for a turbulent time. The question is, does the current squad have the bottle and necessary fight to get us out of a relegation fight, should we become embroiled in one? I, for one, have my doubts. cambridgeshire canary 7,932 Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) Wait until we have our squad back from injury and then decide. Edited November 10, 2024 by cambridgeshire canary
Peregrine Shorts 554 Posted November 10, 2024 I still think we’ll finish closer to the top than the bottom but yesterday worried me a bit

I am not sure it as bad as you describe. Performances and results have generally been good this season with plenty of positives. The injuries have definitely started to catch up with the squad but it is only the last couple of performances that have been poor. The Boro result looks better with their subsequent high scoring wins. Also, playing the same team three times in a week, with minimal rotation, would not have helped. The break comes at a good time, time to regroup, hopefully get some players back, and time to reset. I agree that Sargent/Barnes as an injury prone front two was an accident waiting to happen and something the club should address in January.

Kenny Foggo 1,205 Posted November 10, 2024 The reality is, we have 6 decent championship players and the rest are run of the mill. Four of those 6 (Gunn, Nunez, McLean, Sargent) are injured and their replacements are not good enough. I don't believe we will be in a relegation fight once they are back but it shows the lack of quality in the squad after years of selling our best talent and poor recruitment. Saying that it is 9 games without a win which is concerning,

Capt. Pants 5,152 Posted November 10, 2024 Bit early to talk about relegation. Get over these injuries and suspensions and we should climb the table again. The response from the squad and coaching team to this period of adversity though has largely been very poor. I think Knapper will be disappointed with the lack of fight and ability. Mr Angry 2,094 Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) We were 7th after the Hull match-the one in which Gunn went off injured. We lost Núñez in the next match and as the injuries increased and McLean got suspended our performances understandably declined. With players coming back we won’t be in a relegation fight. We lost Nunez leading 1-0 at Stoke.. then went on to draw 1-1 and draw next two. Then we lost Sargent (and McLean) and went on to the lose the next 3. How two players can make so much difference is quite incredible really. Edited November 10, 2024 by Creedence Clearwater Couto

hogesar 10,949 Posted November 10, 2024 The division is so tight you can talk about both relegation and playoffs realistically. What's important is we get a couple players back and stop conceding 2 goals every game so confidence doesn't drop through the floor. The management team last season built up a siege mentality which with fans perception at the time was much needed and clearly kept belief high inside the camp. Fans are still onside so that's not needed at the moment but then it might actually be what the group needs psychologically!

Fisher is looking very decent for this level too, and is keeping Stacey, another good operator at this level, out of the starting XI. We've got a very good Championship XI and in a hypothetical world where no one gets injured we'd be all but guaranteed top 6, maybe better. The trouble is, behind that 11 we are looking pretty abject.

Capt. Pants 5,152 Posted November 10, 2024 No guarantee Nunez will be 100% fit for the remainder of the season. You suspect Sarge will need to build up his fitness again when he hasn't really regained his fitness from last season's injury. If we don't have back-up for Sarge it could be a very long season. We're missing a hell of a lot of attacking play on the overlap down the right ,which Fisher doesnt replicate
