He's supposedly the heir apparant to host the show once Lineker departs at the end of the season.

"Jermaine Jenas, it could have been you..."

I think he's improved from when he was first a pundit where then he was to much a giggling, raised voice, nonense talking pain in the ****. Which he still in, but he has improved to be able to craft more detailed analysis. As an anchor a little too annoying. I see clips of linkear/Shearer/Richards doing informal podcast chats and most of the discussion doesn't really involve Richards and he is more of the annoying raised voice, not saying much I mentioned before.

Eni Aluko for me. Proper insight.

Proper ****e... 19 goals in 40 games. You do the math on that, works out to 1 goal a game. That's internet gold. Might not be word for word what she said but it's a long them lines 😂😂

It's all about BBC budget isn't it? It will be the cheap option which might rule out Richards as he's more freelance.

Alex Scott or Gabby Logan I reckon.

Richards isn't a presenter so don't think it will be him. Surprised to see Dion up there.

Its the BBC. Sorry for being sexist but it'll be a woman.

Almost certainly Alex Scott. Will be no better than Big Ea.....oh, I probably can't say that.......than Lineker. If I had a choice it would be Colin Murray, superb presenter.

Agree on both counts.

I'd like it to be Murray, but expect it to be Scott. I'd love to see the social media meltdown if the gig goes to a black woman, providing of course that it isn't Eni Aluko.

Viewing figures for Football Focus dropped when Scott took over. I find her voice/accent irritating and I suspect I'm not the only one.

I've heard lots of moans about Lineker and his salary but he's extremely good at his job and anyone else will be a downgrade.

Most of the moans are from the folks who don't like that he's intelligent and informed about more subjects than just football...

No real standout candidates for me. I wasn't a Jenas fan. Never have been. He was a bit too daytime TV cheesey for me. Not that it's a qualifier, but I always thought him overrated as a player too.

Colin Murray is a good shout, but like Chappers and Logan, part of me thinks they'll go for someone new/fresh.

They could do a lot worse than Peter Crouch imho.

The only people that whinge about Lineker are those who can't stand that he's got informed opinions outside football. He's an excellent presenter who hits the fine line between analysis and entertainment very well indeed.

And he triggers the hell outta Piers Morgan on the regular.

Gary Lineker's leaving Match of the Day so enjoy these 16 times he gloriously owned Piers Morgan into next season - The Poke

Surprised not to see Claire Balding on the list. She seems to get every sports presenter gig regardless of whether she knows anything about the sport.

I can understand MOTD being popular when it was the only way of watching any top flight football but now that every EPL game is available by a variety of methods, why would you bother?

Quite. Can't ever imagine watching MotD again. Certainly have no interest in who's in the studio. Always used to watch it on catch-up on Sunday morning and fast forward to the actual football. It could be hosted by Nigel Farage and Piers Morgan for all I care.

I found it hard to watch when it was the main outlet in all honesty.  Perhaps like many others(?), I find highlights on youtube alongside comments from fans or neutrals perspectives to be much more interesting than sitting through the guff on MOTD.  Shame really, but things just move on.
