Lack of a captain's performance

One thing that stood out for me today was the lack of someone to drive us on. I didn't see all the first half, but from what I did see then and in the second half was a team crying out for a captain - a captain to drive and direct things. That would normally be Mclean - and there is no doubt he and Nunez are being missed badly, but surely there should be others in the squad who can step up to that role of captain? Someone to organise, motivate and push buttons? 

Who was captain today? Whoever it was, it didn't work.

No, haven't seen them, no doubt I will at some point as I go through other threads.

The midfield is spineless without Kenny.

Nuñez is the best we have in there and the one makes things tick and knits everything together, but we have no aggression, bravery, character or leadership without McLean.

Sorensen has none of the above characteristics and is nowhere near good enough to fill McLean's boots in that role.

What’s Sorenson’s contract situation, I vaguely remember hearing that he was supposed to be out of contract this summer?

We bought him as a DM and he’s hopeless in that position, so he only place he’s ever looked decent is LB cover and we don’t need that. Slimane can do a job for us I feel but the other 2? We need reinforcements badly.

Not sure any captain would have been able to stop us from p ssing about at the back.  Improve the passing accuracy or get players to show a bit more flare and invention.

We are what I pointed out in August. A team devoid of positive play, obsessed with keeping possession. This dull, negative football is easily countered, as has been shown this week.

Sorensen is gone in the summer. Slimane has now conceded 2 goals because he won't tackle; Middlesbrough he should have cleaned out Doak and today just let their players walk passed him.

He was out of contract this summer just gone but we offered him a new one. 

I thought it was the wrong decision at the time, and what I've seen recently only confirms that. He seems to play every game like it's the first match of preseason.

You’re not wrong, as much as I have criticised McLean in the past I’ve acknowledged his past two seasons, I do think we should have recruited a replacement for McLean by now, it shows we haven’t but we do miss his presence on the pitch.
