A lot of teams are. What a great player we have on our books. Enjoy the ride.

I would argue the opposite. Yes Borja was great today, but the problem was we were missing a number of absolutely key players in Gunn, Kenny, Sarge and Nunez. That suggests we are not a one man team at all.

Yep, I'm terrified about the fact we have the best player in the championship, it can only spell doom for the club. Sell him in January and get Paul Dalglish back.

All the best.

Iwans Big Toe.

Whilst obvious troll is obvious, it is another game of wondering what we would do without him. We certainly can't afford for him to get injured!

Yeah he’s carrying us, no doubt. We’d possibly be down with Luton if it weren’t for him so far this season.

Seriously how does the BBC get away with it? I mean Little Britain looks pretty bad in retrospect and won't come back as a result yet somehow the worlds least funniest show in Mrs Browns Boys is still on the air?

While this is a troll, it's not wrong. Sainz is scoring well above his xG. His goals have changed games in our favour and so often his goals have come from nowhere as a piece of individual brilliance rather than a consequence of our play.

Defensively we look shaky. Without Sainz we are ordinary.

Remove Sainz's low xG strikes (ie those ones which are individual brilliance rather than tap ins at the end of team moves which would be high xG) and we would be well down the table.

I'm sorry, but this just perpetuates the nonsense that is xG.  One man's 25 yard strike is another man's tap in.  In other words, for a player like Sainz, it may seem easy to him that he scores from distance with so called low xG chances, so in that situation, why would they be called low xG......because someone else says so?  If a person is consistently very good at making brilliant goals, then those goals cannot be considered low xG!

This, interesting that it gets ignored because it doesn't suit the narrative.........

Sainz if off in January City can sign Poke from Peterboro.  Tearing up L1 defences apparently will be moving soon tricky winger.  Can't see PL calling move to Norwich and then onto PL.  Depends on how much for Sainz surely must be £20m, if Bilbao can afford.  Get Poku for half that, money for a new striker.

Yes I don’t see for a second how xg can be used as a tool to calculate moments of individual brilliance. Sainz has the ability to score from distance and has shown it time and time again. Xg can’t calculate for that any more than it can for a Messi mesmerising run beating 6 players and scoring, Or a Beckham free kick. Some players just have that bit of magic

Oh dear،hook line  and sinker . Like I said before ,it was a mirror , a reflection, social commentary.  People who see so little of the world really shouldn't make ridiculous comments, especially when they're  running out the same old tropes..... massive difference  between B&W minstrels and little Britain.  Get educated before you get radicalised, it'll stop you looking soooo stoooopid .

Same as Alf Garnett if I recall correctly, I'm sure the comedian behind him did an interview where he said the aim was to take the rip out of those who thought like him.

As you've both said similar things I thought I'd quote you both but that is exactly what xG is for. If Sainz does have some other-worldly ability to score goals from outside the box then xG will demonstrate that. The fact that Messi has outperformed his xG for most of his career backs up the eye test that he's the best player ever. For Messi a shot outside the box may not be a 'low xG' chance because he's so gifted, but he is one man and xG can be used across every match.

This thread is titled one man team, if Sainz does have the ability as you say then what happens if he leaves or gets injured? If we had Onel playing there would we have scored those goals? That's where xG can be helpful.

This demonstrates just a huge gap in your knowledge, not in the stat itself.

Yep, did a little reading up on it ( xG, not Lakeyo). XG is considered a base line  , which Borja ( and Messi)outperform...indicating an exceptional talent.

Lakeyo reminding  me of yer man in Mid night Express,  ' proving' how mad he was by walking in the opposite to everyone else, around that pillar.  You've got nothing to prove  Lakeyo , we all know you're a barking mad contraband.

I think the very term "XG" winds me up. It is made to sound like some magic bullet that has all the answers, but it clearly doesn't.

Does it enhance people's ability to analyse the way goals are scored? Probably, but it does not need to be treated as if it is some kind of wonder stat to be brought in to every conversation about goals scored.

Winds you up, says it all really. The.rest of that paragraph is your take on other people, including probably ALL footy clubs finding it a useful stat. No one is claiming it's the Holy Grail , but you are shouting ' ITS NOT THE HOLY GRAIL'.  You'd have more fun shouting ' Idi Amin was a good laugh if you caught him in the right mood'. Just as meaningless and more amusing.
