You can bet your house on him scoring...

Hope Ayling gets a welcome as well tried to take lumps out of Sainz in our last encounter.

Have to disagree with that. Thought he was great for us and scored both crucial and fantastic goals.

Interesting view, I think he inhabited the space between the two. I'm a dullard  I like my players to be consistent, give me a 6.5/7.5 and team works, they can rely on each other. But he had something, he could/can pick a pass. Certainly worse players that have had a midfield gig in the last 15 years..

....also, I really reckon that encounter with Sainz last season was out of character. Howson isn't that sort of player, he's always shown a bit of old school decency, of that old breed that probably plays cricket for his village side in the summer. Rather than bum-funning some **** in ibiza

Yup . Great volley. Best I’ve seen at CR I reckon. Liked the guy until his pathetic performance last year.

Then I again I used to like Lambert .

Funny how players can go from hero to zero in just one or two acts isn't it? Just look at Rowe, just last year he was loved by everyone.

Nowadays he's probably never going to be let back in the city!

Clearly not a great player otherwise wouldn't have played at Norwich or Middlesbrough. Probably hasn't built on his potential shown at Leeds, nonetheless has had a decent career and made good money out of football.

I'm more concerned with Sainz actually. Ayling has that lovely combination of taking man and ball when he's in the mind.

I think he was on the bench after recovering from an injury. Doubt he'll be involved on Sunday. Home fans need to give him stick.

Oops. I meant to say, I think he will be involved on Sunday.

It's all relative. Hoolahan never played higher than he did with us. Must mean he was ****.

Howson at his peak for us, was probably the best all round CM we've had in the last 20yrs. We've had better AM, better DM and better holding midfielders, but he played all of those positions for us competently.

He was very neat and tidy on the ball and could pass sharply.

One of Lambert's inbetweenie Leeds steals.

No, it means he wasn't great either. There's a middle ground between great and ****.

Yes quite. At the end of the day he was good for us but I wouldn't say he was great. In nobody's best ever City XI. Buendia was beyond great for us and but doesn't hardly come off the bench at Villa. It's all relative though and at the end of the day I care very little about what our ex-players do or achieve.

Buendia has been out injured for what? 18mths?

'Best ever' teams are always highly debatable. Most people will suggest players they have seen play. That means for some, it's the last 20yrs. For others it can be 70yrs+.

A great example would be to ask the fanbase who was the best goalkeeper we've had. My bet is you'd get Keelan, B. Gunn, Green would get some votes, then Ruddy and Krul. It would be between Keelan and Gunn snr at a guess.

I'm too young to have seen Keelan. Gunn was in goal for us when I really got into football in early middleschool.

What's the difference between 'best' and 'most successful'?

Like I say, Howson is arguably the most complete CM we've had since the turn of the millennium in my view.

No one is saying he is Zidane. We're only talking about this club. It's a really bizare way of arguing he's not worthy of appreciation...

Good points, so how about considering whether he would get in the best XI since year 2000? For me he wouldn't be creative enough to oust Buendia and Sara, and not defensively strong enough to oust Tettey or Skipp. Nonetheless he was certainly a very good reliable player for us, who had some genuinely great moments (e.g. that volley, and the Man City goal); but not for me one of the all time greats. Also seemed a very decent bloke, so it was particularly disappointing to see him cheat so awfully in a game that City were dominating. His post-game comments defending his cheating only added to the disappointment. Sadly, he will deserve getting a rough reception from the CR faithful.

Didn't we all GPB, and I was so glad when Daniel Farke exorcised his ghost the day he winked at the camera, it drew a perfect line under Lambert.

Howson blew it . That ludicrous hopping  around in front of the snake pit was WUM beyond . And it started to unravel when Long saved the pen. By the time we got our second Howson had legged it.

As a footballer he won a minor battle last year . As a man he has completely lost his legacy with us. Never to be welcomed back at one of his major clubs .

Seems utterly stupid.

Here's the thing for me. Buendia wasn't a CM for us.

I'd also say Howson was better than Sara's first season.

Defensively he could be as good as Skipp and was a better passer.

Above that he also achieved more than Skipp and Sara for Norwich, being a regular in the premier league.

At which point he often played alongside Tettey or Johnson in midfield. Tettey was often targeted as our weak link with teams pressing him when he had the ball.

Howson in that game vs Man City was outstanding, capped by the goal at the end of a mazy run.

For me, Howson would be straight in to that 11.

Not sure what 'all time greats' are because apparantly you have to be Zidane, Messi, Rivaldo to be one!

For me he’s good but was/is seldom great. He may make your 11 but you’d be in a minority.

Not as much of one as you'd think. And he was superb in the Premier League under Hughton and Alex Neil.

Not that it matters greatly.
