Championship; Weaker than the MLS?

Recommended Posts

I'm not really sure what these stats mean, but I reckon the championship is the toughest league out there.

Having seen a czech top flight game in the last couple of years to say the standard is only slightly worse than the championship is laughable. Unless you're giving out alot of credit for the racist ultras...

Our flat screen TV has a power rating. As does our fridge.

Our football team, not so much.

In terms of the top 10 from each league that table might not be far out, other than MLS being above the Championship.

It's still a sad indictment of US soccer and God Bless America.

Exactly. Very much seems like cooking the books from our American cousins. From experience their league is league 1 with a splattering of gold dust. The English league system is the toughest in the world.

When players are no longer good enough for the Championship they go to the MLS. Not the other way around.

The Championship is probably the most competitive league. Last season no one in the top half finished more than 11 points off playoffs and no one in the bottom half finished more than 9 points off relegation. In a 46 game season there's not many 'dead rubbers'.

Remember a few years ago that with about five games left there was only one team guaranteed to be playing in the Championship the following season. Imagine it's the case most years. Unlike the PL it remains a football competition. For how long, who knows.

I don't know what 'power rating' actually consists of. If it includes an element of player quality and international caps for example, that analysis might look a bit different if Messi is excluded.

Whatever it is, reading the graphs title it's only the Top 10 teams of each of those leagues that's being taken into account anyway.

Which is a load of balls to start with really, If you're going to rate how 'powerful' a league is, at least do it on the whole league and not a select percentage.

The recent performance of Czech teams in Europe suggests otherwise. Also, where did you encounter racist ultras, I’ve been to a number of Czech games and not come across this!

Corrected for accuracy.

Brno. Looking at the table they did finish bottom of the league that year so that explains why they didn't seem that great.

The ultras had nazi flags and made alot of noise. They were a small minority and kept up one end of the stand while most people were in the other end!

Slight tangent but Brno is a great City. I'd recommend a visit. So much to see. I'd definitely go back. It's like a smaller version of Prague without the stag dos!
