In my blood 109 Posted October 5 That is hilarious. I didn't realise 1p5wich invented football, were the originators of free flowing football and all good things on the pitch. Deluded or what. Hope they never win a game all season.Ā

From what I saw (and it was pretty minimal because I don't have a weird obsession with our nearest neighbours) they played high tempo, direct football not entirely dissimilar to what we're trying to do this season. Nothing wrong with going direct if the ball is on; did you miss our game yesterday? I'm not going to click on the link in the OP (for the same reason as parenthesised above) but, once you get over the weird insecurity, emulating the success of other teams can only be a good thing. If some insecure Ipswich fans are worried that we're playing good football again, I don't think it's worth taking it as anything other than a compliment.Ā Ultimately, football would probably be more enjoyable if we could resume our rivalry in the Premier League. I missed the derby during their League One years.Ā
Capt. Pants 5,017 Posted October 6 Some of our best moments this season have come when we go long and direct with a ball over top of the press.Ā I've no idea how that compares with them, but I suspect that tactic will get you nowhere in the Premier League, so hopefully they're are also doing it.

Possession based, high press, asymmetric formations (full backs playing on the wing, inverted full backs), It is the modern way of coaching and playing football, it is certainly not revolutionary. With any "style'' of football that is en vogue, teams need to be both adaptable to how the opposition play and be prepared to mix things up. Most PL teams look to play out from the back but will be quite happy to chip one over the press into midfield or go straight from back to front. You need to be unpredictable. It is why Rylan is getting so much stick on the south coast - playing out from the back at all times is a recipe for disaster in the PL.Ā
Lazza 63 Posted October 7 Yeah, we are copying the style of Ipswich. Not the style of Brighton, Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich etc. who have been playing that way for years.
Nuff Said 5,973 Posted October 7 For starters, we scored four goals, they conceded four. So we appear to be the completeĀ opposite.
