Shocking from our club

Recommended Posts

So today we get an email to say our seats in the Thorpe area going to change to standing, hardly any other seats available for us to move to as it's mid season. What a  **** up.....absolutely fuming!!!

If the existing standing arrangements had been fully approved then how is it that after a few games the scheme is no longer suitable?

Just stand. There is the issue sorted for you fella

Some people don't want to stand which is why they bought a seat.

@Nik Vawnwhere exactly are you in the ground? Surely this isn't the whole of the Thorpe section? Screenshot_20240930_133459_Opera.thumb.jpg.fbd405abb6c77cd0c71530df0bec2194.jpg

“On review of this, and during initial inspections of these areas by the SGSA and the SAG, it has been identified that for safety reasons further Safe Standing rails are required to be installed in the remainder of the Thorpe Area and this installation will include your seat.

The installation of these additional rails is currently due to begin during week commencing October 28, following our home fixture against Middlesbrough and should all be completed before the visit of Bristol City on November 9.”

What a mess. Other than seeking a full refund I can't see there's much you can do.

I wonder if the club should engage in an exercise to move people along one place to create double places. If that makes sense

When I went to the Watford game I was very surprised to see the rails end in the middle of nowhere in the Thorpe corner. Seemed an obvious health and safety breach. Think i remember reading that people have hit their heads on the end of the rails. Can't believe it wasn't foreseen but not entirely surprised that they now have to rectify it.

As you say, really poor from the club and I'm sorry you're affected. Hopefully they'll be able to move you to a better seat.

They end abruptly rather than having the curved bit at end too, don't they?

If you go up the steps in the Barclay they're a little mis-matched.. Some have that curved bit on the edge, but others don't.  Not sure why.

We sit in the Thorpe Area in the safe standing zone (My seat number is 215 and is the very last of the safe standing area as that is where the Thorpe Corner ends).

At the Watford game we were talking about how poorly the rails had been finished off and as Robert says people have been hitting their heads on the end of the rails.

If you look down you can see that four holes ave been drilled into the  concrete at the point of all seat 215s (and this was the case for the Leeds play off game), which led us to believe that either the rails were going to be finished off properly or the rails would continue on for the remainder of the Thorpe Area.

At the moment nobody to my right is allowed to stand so safe standing hasn't really impacted us that much, I suspect that will change when the whole Thorpe Area is safe standing, unless, as happens where we sit, people continue to sit despite having the option to stand...........

I just saw them from a distance from the upper Barclay, so no idea. Just thought they looked very odd.

Sounds like a right botch-job.

Somebody will be along to lay the blame for this squarely on the shoulders of a highly paid female executive director don't you think @GMF ?

However this is poor form by the club.

You must sit close to me OP. I’m about 3 seats in from where the rail seating ends. To be honest people don’t stand all the time. You can quite easily sit most of the time and still see. But it’s nice not to be told to sit down 5 times a game. I think they included our little bit beyond the gangway (it only currently goes about half a dozen seats into the block)  there is a block of us who tend to stand for most of the game and they realised they don’t have  a hope of ever getting everyone to sit down.

They aren’t really proper rail seats like you see at some grounds. Clearly a budget job.

Thanks for that, it’s not so much me but my Mrs. she isn’t very tall and if people in front chose to stand, which they will be fully entitled to do, then she ain’t going to see much even if she stands herself.

Sounds to me as if extending the area was always on the cards, why on earth didn’t they do the job properly so that those who wished to move could change their seats when there were seats available to move to….but mid season is just a joke!

Should never be going back to standing anyway. It is an anachronism and should have been left in the past out of respect to the Hillsborough victims. Seating is better, safer and more civilised. You don't go to the theatre to stand up and the ancient Greeks never envisaged standing so I don't see why you should want to stand. Only yobbos would want to do so as it feeds into their yobbo behaviour.

Rubbish, you’re talking out of your backside as per.  Have you ever been to the Globe? Or any theatre?

Totally agree with you. Personally I think the plan was always to carry the rails on. Doing something like that mid season is bonkers............

Standing didn't take those victims, over-crowding, irresponsible supporters and officials actions did.  Plus it was the caging at the front that was the issue.  So what a twattish remark to make.

It's good to be on your feet and active, there's so many health benefits both physically and mentally.  It's easy to sit spectators down and load them up with hot-dogs, but not everyone wants that.

It sucks that you got that email though.

This reads like the job was done by a bunch of cowboys and never had proper approval or sign-off.

Bit of a shambles really.

All seater stadia were brought in as a direct result of the Lord Justice Taylor Report into Hillsborough. Any return to standing is morally repugnant.

Shakespeare tucked himself away in a little cottage up in Stratford. What did he know? Partaking in high culture probably accounts for less than 1% of the UK population.
