Weak red card spoils the game unfortunately.

Indeed! Can’t see it as a second yellow for a  red card! But daft of Trossarde!

Trossard only has himself to blame.  Such a shame to ruin the match with a pointless red.

A good game spoiled.

Apparently Trossard got the second yellow for delaying the restart. That's just moronic. You just don't do that when on a yellow.

Lots of narrative behind this one, given what Rice was sent off for v Brighton and Doku doing the same (if not worse) earlier in the game.

Get set for a half of attack vs defence

Oliver was going to let them keep playing until they scored, wasn't he. He could not whip the red card out fast enough first half, barely hid the glee from his face, "this will get me plenty of the attention I never got in my PE lessons".

No way was 7 mins injury time enough after that sh1thousery.

Refs make this up as they go along. Last year we saw 10 mins for the first few weeks . Now its settling down again.

Arsenal took shïthousery to the next  level today. Could easily have been 10 mins .

Possibly true  - but quite why the ref hasn’t blown for h-t well before is anyone’s guess, it was almost at the end of 8mins of injury time and pretty sure the board had said 6.

I don’t think it was particularly well reffed - last season the guy let everything go, this time was very different and as a neutral he was very much more inclined to penalise those in red.

It was confirmed as that. Trossard was absolutely dumb there. You're on a yellow, you miss a tackle so that's already a potential tightrope so why the heck would you commit a yellow card offence on its own at that point? Especially after missing a tackle!

Trossard gave Oliver a decision to make. Unfortunately for him, Oliver made it. Stupidity from the player there, clear and simple.

You’re missing my point - I wasn’t debating Trossard being a muppet; it was more the generally poor refereeing.

It's a minimum, and Arsenal scored in stoppage time, with lots of celebrating and VAR checking a possible foul on the keeper. Both halves could've easily had more time added on for the injuries, time wasting and shenanigans.

That decision was spot on. As for the timekeeping, I thought everybody knew that the amount of time put up for injury time is a minimum and not absolutely set in stone. If you get even more time-wasting and general faffing around during that time then the referee is also entitled to add extra time as seen fit.

But you can't really blame the referee for Trossard being an absolute eejit. He played stupid games and lo and behold, he got stupid prizes.

First half? No, not for me. For the second you could have played plenty more, but the first half should have easily been done with by then.

I hadn’t quite appreciated this site was quite so Man City-loving, but there you go.  As a complete neutral the ref was very poor and for me ultimately ruined the match as a competitive game.

Six minutes stoppage time in the first half was actually very light.

The two stoppages for Rodri's 'injuries' were a combined six minutes on their own. There was the flashpoint just before the first Arsenal goal, of course three goals plus their celebrations and other bits and bobs.

Spot on.

It's easy to claim the letter of the law but in my opinion the penalty far outweighed the crime. I know many won't agree but I thought Oliver was too quick on the draw. I Don like to see results decided by referees.

I'm always one to defend referees, and I will do so here because he would've been heavily criticised by one side no matter which decision he took, but I don't think it was a necessary yellow card to give. Man City wouldn't have taken that free kick short so close to half time and would've sent the centre backs forward, so Trossard kicking the ball away didn't really delay the taking of it when you've got a multi ball system in place.

Saying that, Trossard is an absolute idiot for giving Oliver a decision to make, especially after the Rice fiasco against Brighton.

But when you've got 22 players plus the benches trying to con the referee constantly for 90 minutes, it's tough to feel any sympathy for a team when something borderline goes against them. Maybe the opposition were just better at pressuring the ref today...
