Angus not Top Ten

Gunny's not started out brilliantly, but that article doesn't seem to show how they came to the conclusions they drew.

Getting Viktor Johansson for just a million was a bargain by Stoke.

For shot stopping there are few better in the league, but Gunn has a bit of a weakness on crosses and sticks to his line a bit too much. He does seem to have improved a bit on this since Clements came in so hopefully he can continue to get better this season. The worry is his contract is up next June and no news of a new one yet.

Would be a shame to see him go for nothing, but can see why the club might feel there is better out there who'd have lower wages.

He lacks a bit of robustness for me. If you're going to stick to your line, your reflexes and anticipation need to be absolutely outstanding and whilst he's good in both aspects, I don't see them as top-drawer. Going for crosses requires considerable strength as well as height to clatter everyone else aside, and this is where he looks a little bit.... flimsy.

If his dad came out for a high ball, you just knew any **** in the way got planted.

Don't really know enough about the other keepers, he's an average keeper to be fair. Not crap but not quality either.

Gunn is one of the players that we would need to replace should we ever get promoted - of course, he may be retired by then.😂

He's not that good to be honest, but probably would be in the top ten in the Championship. Krul was significantly better IMO but we could have worse than Gunn.

I go to every home game and I'm not sure I've seen many visiting GKs you would class as a dodgy keeper, in fact many of them seem to pull off an excelent save at some point.

I think Gunny is better at commanding his area better than he used to, although I don't think his shot stopping has improved at all, which is an attribute most GKs are good at anyway. Similarly his distribution is average.

He was very good most of last season although finished the season a bit suspect, especially at Leeds in the play-off 2nd leg. He seems to be carrying that form forward. Perfectly good enough for us now, but get promoted it's a priority position to look for an upgrade.

You can probably say that for every position, so not a biggy for me at this stage.

Average Championship keeper, dad was far superior.

Yes, despite his dad being over rated.

Best keeper we've had since I started watching in 1991 is Robert Green.

I think the £2m Sheff Utd paid for Mike Cooper will prove to be a bargain too.

Depends how injury-prone he is, I think Cooper's had to come back from some heavy-duty issues IIRC and the modern demands of the position certainly leave nowhere to hide. We've already seen that with Hanley's return and he's at centre-half, let alone the last line of defence.

Would totally agree if he'd not had much of a history though, Cooper is a very fine stopper at his best.

I would possibly agree.

Definitely the bast save I ever saw from a city keeper was Green away at Bolton iirc ( definitely somewhere north west). He managed to dive at a shot from the 6 yard box into the corner of the goal following a bit of a melee. How he had time to react, dive, and parry the ball still amazes me to this day. The poor striker did everything right and still didn't score!

I think the current set up is driving everything forward Inc recruitment lined up for the next few windows. If Gunn is not offered a new contract between now and Jan, a better keeper could be on the cards, one that is ready to establish themselves for a decent period if time and Gunn could be out of the door.

Gunn senior had his best match at the Old Den in that infamous 3.2 win. Some of those saves in the second half were unbelievable.

Clements came in. Improved Gunn, does need to catch a ball more than punch. From memory he did at Coventry.

Long  though.....that's a 3 goal a game concern going on way too.....long

Oh dear, could have and should have done done better with the Portuguese goal tonight. Certainly he is not in good form at the moment.

Edit. Well he is keeping Scotland in the game now .
