Drop me a PM if you’re interested in the 4-2-3-1 tactic I’m playing with
Mason 47 1,925 Posted September 6 I think I'm still on '23. Can anyone suggest whether or not the step over is worth it/ offers much difference? My current career went a bit flat because I lucked into a relegated Crystal Palace in the second season and became utterly unstoppable.

I don't often manage Norwich on FM as I always like to pick smaller teams, but I took over Norwich in March 2028 just as they were about to be relegated from the Premier League. Fast forward to 2038 and I've won the Premier League six times in a row with three Champions Leagues, plus several other trophies. In the 2035/36 season I achieved the holy grail of winning every competition I was in (Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, European Super Cup, Community Shield). I've got a ridiculous squad which is becoming too dominant to be enjoyable, so I'll probably move to a team in another European league when my contract expires in 2039 for one more challenge on FM23 before moving onto, in all likelihood, FM25. It's looking like FM24 will become only the third ever version that I won't play, because I'm still enjoying my save on the previous version. I can't help but get the feeling though that FM23 has been the easiest one ever, unless I've just 'cracked it' after two decades...

Old Shuck 291 Posted September 6 Thankyou. Utter legend! That's my weekend gone. Question-am not, nor have ever been, the best at the game-what is the best formation for us at the start? I'm looking at 4-2-3-1 & maybe not bringing in that many players in the first window, see what we've got, game wise. I was a slave to 4-4-2 for many years and will always be grateful to some of the players who I signed, time and time again in various versions of the game- Kasper Hämäläinen, Patrik Lomski, Gabriel Torje and Michael Duff amongst them! RE your last point, I jumped from '19 to '23 and found my first few months (fired by Lincoln, 16 straight losses) impossible. Somehow got in at Palace in free fall from the PL, made £150m in the transfer window and then became an unstoppable juggernaut of a team. Never sure if that was down to me. The debate was- is the game easy, or did I just have a squad containing Ryan Sessengnon, Eze, Olise, Doucoure, Ndombele, Zaha, Cole Palmer, Joachim Andersen, Mudryk and Victor Gyokeres in the Championship? Maybe. The relegated Norwich squad which I inherited contained lots of saleable assets, so I sold two-thirds of the squad, including all the best ones, for about £280m and built a Championship monster for around £90m. The excess cash was used to build a strong Premier League squad within a year or two of promotion; I finished second in my second season and won it in the third. But before taking over at Norwich, I took Gloucester to the Championship with not just four consecutive promotions, but four consecutive title wins in my first four seasons. That's something I've never achieved before on FM. On a separate save, my only other one on FM23, I managed to do something I'd never done before as well, which is win the second tier and top flight in consecutive seasons, which I did with La Serena in Chile. That's in addition to going on a 21-game winning streak with Norwich in the Championship and winning all six trophies in a season, as I mentioned in my previous post. These are things I'd never managed before, so I reckon FM23 is/was just a bit too easy.

Agreed, I have dipped into older games before because the new ones take too long to complete a season. Persistent press conferences are a right pain the backside. Up until FM22, you got a free copy of the watered down FM Touch, which was nice if you wanted to fly through a save more quickly, but they don't do that any more, which is a shame. Pull down the DB update from the other link I provided to bring the City squad up to date, though note that Montoia is still in the squad. That does get you all the recent changes with Forson, Crnac, Schwartau and Slimane in the squad. As for formation, I’ve been playing 4-3-2-1 with a single pivot. Take a look for the Loki tactic online which seems quite effective.

Old Shuck 291 Posted September 9 I'm having a torrid time! 2-0 up at Plymouth Argyle, lost 3-2., three goals in the last five minutes. Lost 2-0 at home to Leicester City, never seen such a one sided game in any version of FM, Callum Doyle was like Maldini out there. My 4-2-3-1 formation isn't working, played 4-4-bloody 2 at home to Birmingham, scraped a 1-0 win, thanks to Duffy scoring from a corner. A choice of Van Hooijdonk or Barnes up front, Sarge out for the season-its enough to make you weep. Best player has been Gibbs by a mile!

Old Shuck 291 Posted September 9 Right, they've had a day off cancelled and we've gone for wingbacks-McCallum and Stacey with three at the back. Kenny & Gibbs as the midfield two. Front three of Sainz-Onel-Rowe (who is being tapped up by Chris Wilder) for a game at Swansea, 3-0 up at half time, Onel didn't like playing centrally & said so, but scored two; Sainz with a header too! Held on to win 3-1. Gabby and Nunez on the bench but there'll be lots of like for like changes in the games to come. Up to 10th & bottom of the table Coventry at home next, might be in the play off places if we win that. Along come Norwich? Screenshots very welcome-I am notoriously diabolical at this game although as per an earlier thread, delegating staff to most of the day to day tasks is helping. Mr Angry 2,019 Posted September 9 I’m still playing FM20, as my local non-league team starting in Tier 11. Now in League Two which is where I suspect it will be much harder.
