Hanley had no need to make a tackle, no need to do it with his wrong foot, no need to clatter into Zalewski, who was going nowhere at the time.

There was no danger until the Norwich City defender decided to inject peril into a passive moment. Why? He won't know.

Had you asked Hanley his name he might have needed to phone a friend. Naturally, Zalewski scored. Gunn came close, but he rarely comes close enough.

Fear for Grant's mental health here. After Oxford and now this. He isn't the player he was but he needs to be playing to get some confidence and I don't think it is with us. Hope the chap is ok , he looked in pieces at full time.

TBH this is typical Hanley, he reacts late, runs flat out and is just plain clumsy, this his days with us are numbers, can't see him fitting in with Thorup's ethos...he can't pass or travel with the ball and he's certainly not the quickest thinker...

This article from the beeb is actually interesting and has more to say than just slag off Hanley.

It talks about Lewandowski being kept silent by the Scottish defence too. It also appears to take a shot at the manager.

Essentially Scotland clawed themselves back on terms after going 2-0 down. Hanley mistimed a tackle that gave Poland a 3rd.

We don't need to slag Hanley off after an awful injury that's kept him out for a season and may well impact on the level he's able to play now. He's in the last year of his contract with us and has been a great servent. It's horrible to see an injury impact a player like that. The same with Zimbo who was younger and potentially hitting greater heights.

Hanley is shot to pieces I'm afraid after his serious injury, not a Championship or Scotland level player anymore.

Next club should be League One, or even League Two, perhaps as a player coach.

He's 33 in a couple of months anyway, its sad to see that he's not the same player however at the end of the day this could have happened when he was 21 before he'd made any money, and he seems like he's the type to have the potential to get into coaching.

What a nasty, snide piece, needlessly personal. As others have said, he's had an awful injury and is clearly struggling. I know opinions are divided about him, but he's always given his all for NCFC. Given that it's hard to see him getting in the side at the moment, I'm not sure how we fans can 'get behind him', but I hope he's getting an arm round him at Colney.

Unfortunately it looks as though Thorup has seen what Clarke hasn't, yet. It seems incredible to me a player can be deemed good enough for international football when he's hardly figured for his club.

Isn't it Portugal next for Hanley and Scotland?

I’ll happily get behind him as long as he stays on the bench or in the stand. He’s a liability on the pitch and only blind loyalty says otherwise

I accept that the piece was nasty, but at heart I'm afraid it told the truth. It's not as if some on here didn't say this in the aftermath of his injury at Blackburn. It has been coming and people should wise up to it (as Thorup seems to have done, over to Knapper now), Grant should not be picked because of past glories. This is now!

His time has gone. I should think he will play the Danny Batth bench role until January and then start working on a new contract elsewhere. Wouldn't be surprised to see him turn up at Hibs on a 1-year deal or something

So sad to see the Greats become mere mortals after so many good times but both he and we will suffer if he attempts to continue at this level. There is a bright future for Grant as a coach or similar role in football and that is where he should now direct his energies.

Really as a coach? From what I've seen of his communication skills on the pitch and the numerous behind the scenes videos released by the club the last thing I can see him being is a coach! Hardly communicative, enthusiastic or inspiring!

He has been great for the club but now the priority need for the club (and I expect him) is to create a dignified exit ASAP.

Harry Maguire went through 10 times worse. It's up to Hanley to battle through it, or chuck the towell in.

I hear Gunn is getting pelters as well. Hopefully it won't impact on his performances with us.

Seen the goal - author must have an axe to grind if he's blaming Gunn for that.

Or maybe he's more in love with his own prose than providing an accurate report?

I genuinely think, fully admitting never thinking he was any good before being honest, but that injury has finished him. I think he retires after this season

Absolutely agree with this.

However, there will be a plethora of sad sacs happy to criticise his every move from now on. Of that we can be sure. Sadly.

Loan in Jan to SPL after a late sub cameo at Carrow Road so fans can say thank you . Really feel for Grant , maybe its time for him to start looking at post playing options too.

As much as I can appreciate Grant’s contribution to the team over the past few seasons, times change. His injury has had a massive impact and he’s not the player we need right now. No player is bigger than the team.

There's also the balance of giving younger players an opportunity. Hanley mustn't be a blockage to Norwich or Scotland. 

Having Hills, Warner and Tomkinson battling for a place on the bench (and not on loan) suggests Hanley's opportunities will be limited.

I trust JHT to make the right call.
