Steve Bruce Back In Work At Yet Another Club.

Recommended Posts

Haha, presumably he's checked the dates of the next England cricket tour or global tournament so he can spend his payoff. Good for him

Some slate him but he's had a good managerial career over the years. He's done well with teams seen as less than favourable, or fashionable.

Agreed. His record is far better than he's given credit for.

He hasn't done very well in recent years though and he's 63 now, so I can't help but feel he's a little past his sell by date.

Took Hull to an FA Cup final didn't he, which is no small feat.

Football in the top 1 and a half tiers has definitely bypassed him though.

By all accounts 13 managerial jobs so he must be giving Warnock a run for his money.

In 25+yrs though right? Averaging 2yrs at a club. Not bad considering how many top flight clubs that may have involved...

In fact, he managed four teams from 1998-2001, Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace.

Then he had 6 years at Birmingham.

I'm not sure there are many managers that have short resumes. Farke has been head coach of 3 teams since he left us in 2021 for example... and it was late 2021.

Not sure how often you'll see managers be in one post more than 2-3 seasons, much the same as players really.

Either they outgrow the club they are at, doing so well they are approached/poached by a 'better placed' club, or they aren't delivering what's needed and are moved on. Sometimes you get that sweet spot of a perfect fit where teams above don't see enough to take a punt and they are too good to be allowed to leave or to want to gamble moving elsewhere.

I think that was the beauty of the Lambert side, how many players knew they had it good with us so fought so hard for the club.

The latest analysis says: The average tenure for a top flight manager currently stands at two years and four days, but back in 2012, managers tended to last for nearly four years.

Must have made a packet with al the pay offs.

Exactly. Seems weird that a 63 year old multi-millionnaire with more clubs than Arnold Palmer would want to take on a League One outfit.

Maybe the golf course has lost it's attraction.

I think a lot of managers just love managing and he's probably far enough along the line that a perceived drop in status doesn't bother him.
