greendoor 21 Posted August 15 I've been thinking about potential transfers, and one name that keeps coming to mind is Oli Skipp from Tottenham. With the recent news that Ange Postecoglou is looking to move on players who don't fit his system, Skipp seems like he could be on the chopping block. There’s another interesting connection here: Skipp shares the same agent as Ben Chrisene, who we recently signed. Given the recent dealings between the club and Skipp's agent, this could smooth over negotiations and make a move more feasible. From our perspective, Skipp fits the bill of exactly what we need. He knows the club and area, is defensively solid, and brings that midfield bite we've been lacking. He’s also young and still has plenty of room to develop further. With our current midfield options, adding someone like Skipp could bring the balance we need. Given Tottenham’s likely willingness to listen to offers, and the recent dealings with his agent, I think this transfer makes a lot of sense. Would probably cost about half the Sara money.
Robert N. LiM 6,283 Posted August 15 Not sure what to think of this, tbh. On the one hand, no-brainer. Proven player at this level who would fill a position we have really struggled with, other than in the season he was here on loan. And, as you say, plenty of room for him still to get better. But I also think 'never go back' is not a bad rule of thumb. And when he was here before, couldn't look him in the eye, just like an angel his skin made me cry, sorry, got carried away there. When he was here before, he came into a very good team, rather than one that is just being put together. Not a given he'd be as successful here again as he was first time. And finally, surely there'd be a PL team willing to take Skipp. He might not be good enough for Spurs, but he's surely good enough for a bottom-half PL team... 1
Nuff Said 5,963 Posted August 15 Pointless speculation. Apart from anything else, he’s been on PL wages for years. We can’t afford it, and it doesn’t fit the model. Move on

chicken 3,086 Posted August 15 I see that Brighton could be losing Gilmour... Point is, if Skipp becomes available, I can see a number of Premier League sides that would potentially move for him. Palace and Fulham would probably be interested as two other stabs at it. We'd be way down the list. Even if he dropped his wages we'd have to be able to afford the fee. Incredibly, incredibly unlikely, but I'd be happy with it.
TheGunnShow 7,377 Posted August 15 He'd be eight figures. No chance.
Satriales 994 Posted August 15 I understand it from a fans perspective, but none of the current coaching staff, head coach and SD worked with him so why would they go for him? Also, he's too expensive.
Petriix 3,219 Posted August 15 I think it's absolute fantasy to imagine we'd be signing someone of his ability for the fee and wages such a calibre of player would (rightfully) command. He was beyond our budget at the point of our last promotion when we had millions to spend. Now that we're on Championship money with no parachute payments it's simply not credible to suggest we would be in the market for him.
Channon’s Windmill 416 Posted August 15 I’m still not sure we will sign a CDM at all, even though it’s been our Achilles heal since Tettey left. Really hope I’m wrong and we have something up our sleeve,

jaberry2 769 Posted August 15 Isnt this like the 100th time someone has mentioned Skipp. Essentially despite lack of game time at Spurs I doubt he would see us a credible move for him and a backwards step in his development.
dylanisabaddog 6,146 Posted August 15 (edited) Skipp is under contract at Spurs until 2027, on a reported £60k a week. Unfortunately, their current manager doesn't rate him and he sometimes doesn't even make the bench when everyone is fit. There is not a cat in hells chance of him going anywhere on that sort of money, let alone here. There has been no reported interest from other clubs. That doesn't mean no one is interested but it sounds like Postecoglou would shift him on given the chance. I'd be surprised if we were interested anyway. He isn't suitable for a 4 3 3 system. Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,616 Posted August 15 Do fans of other clubs still pine for former loanees many years after they've left, or is that unique to Norwich? As has been said, if he were to leave Spurs, Skipp would have Premier League suitors and be miles out of our price range.
percy varco 253 Posted August 15 I might start a thread. Can we have Maddison back. Dont care if he isnt for sale, he should just take a wage cut and come back.

JonnyJonnyRowe 973 Posted August 15 No chance Skipp would move to the Championship unless it was a loan to the certain Champions with a commitment to sign permanently if promoted. He's a Premier League quality player. Possibly not quite Spurs quality, but he's Crystal Palace/Bournemouth/Fulham//Brentford quality. He'll get a Prem move, and I bet the fee will be £10m-£12m. Capt. Pants 5,009 Posted August 18 Phillips is costing the Binners £100k a week. Holding midfielders are like gold dust. Really do wish we'd strengthen there.
mrdi 411 Posted August 18 Skipp was brilliant here, but the time to buy him was the summer of 2021. We decided instead to bring in paste like Normann, Lees-Melody, Gilmour, Kabak, etc. Three full seasons have passed since, our appeal and spending power has diminished. Seems a bit pointless to talk about him now. Skipp may not be a regular at Spurs but he’s an EPL player now and the mooted fee with Leicester is no surprise. People need to get over him and to a degree, the idea of a specialist CDM. No point browsing Koenigeseggs when you only have a Citroen budget.

If wed kept Howie.. 300 Posted August 18 it would be cheaper to build a time machine and bring a young Tettey back to the (his) future..? best thing about this plan is when he gets old we can go back and grab him again... grab is probably not the best word.. even better go back, grab Danny Mills and errrr i don't know leave him in 1863 or something. I'm not sure i've thought this through..
