Malky's given name is Malcolm, but the others are OK, as far as I know! 😉

I'd never even considered that you know. Makes total logical sense, but Malky is so ingrained in my psyche, it didn't occur to me 🤣

Right, I think I've got an entire team of Daves.

-----------------------------Marshall---------------------------------
---Wright-------Stringer--------Watson------Phillips----
---Bentley--------Fox-----------Rocastle-------Carney---
---------------------Healy-----------Nielsen----------------------

And big Dave Strihavka on the bench, alongside David Mooney (can never remember how to tell Carney and Mooney apart, they were both cr*p loanies).

OMG you missed our prolific centre forward Dave Hodgson, six appearances, 1 goal (rebounded off his backside) 😀..........

Bruce, Morison, Whitaker, Naismith, Elliot, Ball, Walsh, Goble. All Steve's.

Steve Ball......came from Arsenal if I remember rightly.

Watched him play in the reserves on a Friday night and looked quality, got himself a contract and then became really bad almost overnight 😂

Malcolm Allen was one of the first City players I remember loving. Scored four against Sutton United IIRC!

Can’t imagine we’ve had too many called Cedric apart from the obvious

I've just searched the archives, you are probably right, although a few players with an initial of C only were listed as being at the club in the early years - they could have been a Cedric, but more likely Cecil.

Sutton had just beaten Coventry in the previous round and were getting cocky, the press expecting us to do just as badly.

We obliged against Conference team Luton a few years later.

I thing Malky is just the shortened version of Malcolm which bring in Allen so no longer unique

Oops far too late for this party... will get my coat

Is Yildrim in the buildrim?

Not sure but the way this thread quickly got OT suggests people aren't exactly punching the air with delight...

Judging by the clips from last season at Rennes, it looks like he'll start on the right and drift inside, with Stacey overlapping to provide the width.

He looks to be a mix between Sarge and Holty - harrasses defenders and physical, but likes to run with the ball and draw a foul.

As mentioned, his goal scoring record isn't great but he'll fit Thorup's system well.

Another thing to consider, if this guy starts on the right and drifts, a diagonal long ball aimed at him becomes a valuable counter-attacking tool.

Think Norway under Egil Olsen with Jostein Flo on the right wing. Yildirim looks powerful in the air and good at flicking things on. We have problems under pressure in defence and the obvious remedy to that is a reliable out-ball. If there's not one close by, there needs to be one further down the field. A tall false winger, often up against shorter full-backs who may be bombing up, is precisely that counter-attacking weapon where a pressed team in defence can whack one long and wide for them to chase, flick on, or hold up.

That Norway side had Stig Inge Bjornebye at left back, who had an excellent left foot and could hit cross-field balls and crosses, and he sent a steady stream of them in Jostein Flo's direction. I'd expect our left back and LCB to start hitting more of those.

Big and quite fast by the looks of things. Seems to miss (based on highlights) the easier of the chances and scores the harder ones. Albeit you cant judge based on 2 minutes of highlights. Are we expecting an annoucement today?

lightning thunderbolt

Yildirim Surname Meaning Turkish (Yıldırım): ornamental name or nickname from yıldırım 'lightning thunderbolt' figuratively 'speedy'. Yıldırım is just behind the five most common surnames in Turkey.

'Bert Lightning' it is then!
