Jonathan Tomkinson?

Recommended Posts

Is this lad injured, or has he found himself below Hills & Warner in the pecking order?

I expected a couple out of Warner, Hills, Tomkinson and Shipley to go back out on loan again, but to be honest I thought Tomkinson might be the one to break through this season.

From the sounds of things Tomkinson is beneath Warner/Hills. I would expect one of the latter to be sent on loan again as well. I'd say there is still a considerable amount of loan/sales of youth players gonna happen soon, like Springett for example.

I think it was @shefcanary who said he'd been listening to the Pinkun boys' podcasts during preseason, and the inference was that Tomkinson, Montoia, Welch, Springett and Kamara weren't deemed to be good enough to make the step up and were likely to be loaned out or sold.

Montoia had a fantastic pre-season. Abu Kamara scored in his first start for NCFC. Finlay Welch broke through at the end of the season last year into match day squads and is very highly regarded. I can see a loan for Montoia and Welch. I think Abu will stick around until January depending on what business we do over the next two and a half weeks.

Think the end is nigh for Tomkinson and Springett, however.

I thought Montoia looked good too, he was the one I was most surprised about. Kamara looked a bit out of sorts during pre-season, and despite his one-yard tap-in last night I didn't think he looked that great.

As for Welch being highly regarded, he may have been under the previous regime, but if the Pinkun journos are to be believed, he's not rated by the new one.

I agree that Welch and Montoia would benefit from loans, and there's already interest in Kamara so it might be that we decide to sell.

Kamara looks a yard of pace short, or needs a really dominant physical presence nearby to help take men away and give him the extra yard of space where he can weave his magic or at least get some momentum going when going forwards with the ball.

Can't see Springett making a late charge and you'd think he's getting readied to be sold. Montoia needs a loan and it looked on the cards when Chrisene and Doyle came in.

Tomkinson's at the age where you've got to make the decision. I think I'd sell with Hills in the building.

Can you remember did they say "good enough" or "ready to" make the the step up? With some of the younger ones, hopefully it is more a question of the former?

I'll refer you to @shefcanary on that, as I'm just passing on second-hand information.

But....was Kamara better than Fass?

Springett I did see play in the flesh for the u18 or u21 (can’t remember which) but it followed his initial hype about a new talent. He didn’t stand out at all and I was watching him in particular. You’d think at a lower level he would be a better player relatively but he didn’t look it to my untrained eye to be on the cusp then

The PInk'Un boys didn't label each and every one of the four in that way, just that the club had decided they weren't being considered for the first team squad and so were actively looking for them to move elsewhere this season, the inference being loan or sale dependent on the interest shown.

I have a lot of time for him getting booked for scoring from the halfway line

Agree about Montoia, though probably best he goes out on loan rather than being on the fringes of the squad. U21s football lacks that bit of physicality the 'men's' football has.

I doubt Springett will be sold. Loan then signed up. Clubs don't spend the amount he is worth. City will be happy to get his wages off the books and direct it towards Forsyth type signings. Some you win some you don't, As with Tomkinson it is best just to cut your losses.
